Tasted at Laka Lono, Sunday May 28th aka Memorial Sunday 🌺
Gorgeous light gold color, akin to wheat
Aroma: herbal, makes one think of hair tonic or an herbal gin
Flavor: tar and cigar, fades to dust, moves on to sweetness like chewing on a willow tree branch
This is a complicated and lovely sipping treat.
Doesn't matter the version, it just seems like oven cleaner.
I have been waiting for the chance to try two more from Avua, who makes fine artisan cachacas. For this one, all I get is lots of pepper on the tongue with the mild aroma and taste of a good cachaca. It is pale yellow in color. For those that like fine sipping tequilas such as Siete Leguas Anejo , this may be for you. At $66, this one does not come cheap and because it does not even taste like a rum, I cannot rate it higher than a 6. But for lovers of fine tequila, go for it!!! Hmmm!!! What would it be like to age tequila blanco in Tapinhoa wood casks?
I can't say that this is a better or worse cachaça than the Amburana. Thus, it is still very tasty. It's still a foreign taste to the rum palate. The spices are strong in the nose, yet the taste is still nuanced.
Edit: I spent some more time with it, and it's growing on me. Upgrade to an 8.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

As far as cachaças go, nothing beats Avua imho. I feel kind of bad for only rating this a 6, but to me cachaças just don't compare to aged rums.
The Tapinhoã is another great cachaça. It uses Tapinhoã wood instead of oak, which I prefer to their oak cachaça. However, my favorite Avua is still the Amburana, as it just has a more interesting flavor, which is a little sweeter and more flavorful than the Tapinhoã. But this is a close second. :-)
Again, if you like cachaças, I don't think you can beat Avua.
