It is difficult to criticize a christmas gift. I was glad to have an oportunity to taste it. But never bought it for myself. Too much alcohol burn.

Sugar: Estimated at 15 GPL. First of all this rum has a great chestnut colour and a stylish bottle. It tastes like a whiskey. Not sure if that's from the American Oak barrels this was aged in but I think that's a good enough assumption. It has a sharp alcohol nose to it and a sharp taste to match. Burnt Oak, Vanilla, Pepper, and raisins are the dominant tastes for me. It's balanced but sharp, and you definitely have to let this rum air out or add a couple drops of water as it tastes better. It's got a long burn on the end....pepper. It's overpriced in Canada at $100, but I got it today on sale for $80 and after several tastings, I think that I paid too much. If you like whiskey then you will like this rum.

Very nice and heavy bottle with a stylish wodden cap :-). It was a present from our daughter.
A friend of mine recommended it to her.
So, let's put it in the glass.
The nose : EiEiEi. A strong nose clearing sharpness. Also gas or varnish. Uhhhg, I can't smell anything else. That sharpness is so overpowering. Not mine.
The palate : at first sharpness and gas again. Than comes the wood. Unfortunately I cannot leave it in my mouth for more than 2 or 3 seconds. It's simply to sharp for me.
The finish : sharpness and gas are leaving, wood remains. Spices. In the back a little toffee and nut.
Added a little water. Sharpness is obvious less. But the gas is still there. Leave it a little longer in the mouth and let it rotate. Sharpness is coming again. Hmm, I think we won't be friends.
I know several better rums in the same price range.
Next time I will try it on the rocks and I come back with a follow-up

Light nose with vanilla, oak and raisins. On the palate there is also a hint of orange but dried fruits are prominent with a little pepper. It is also a tad harsh and for me that is a blessing (of sorts) as it gets the attention away from the added sugar; not overly sweet but I have my doubts about calling it semi-dry.

Not really a pleasant sip, and I don't get it's pricetag (€40-50), so all in all an overpriced rum that needs the sugar to get the worst off of its sharp edges. Not something to look for but it will do if nothing else is available. At €15-20 it would be more in line with its profile and the flaws would be forgivable but alas...

An eye catcher in the bottle for sure. Thankfully, it doesn't disappoint you once poured in the glass. A simple smooth swirl of the glass is all it takes to reveal the character of this fine rum. Nice sweet aroma on the nose, fairly tasty in the mouth not fully bodied and oily on the throat though, hence a 7.
A rum everyone should definitely try at least once and I will personally be more than happy to enjoy again with good company if given the chance.

A very smooth semi-sweet rum which smells and tastes of toasted oak, almonds, and spice.

Very nice rum from start to finish. Dark fruits on the nose, no burn and finishes with a hint of vanilla and cherries. Smooth and tasty.

got a great deal on this 3x200 ml pack of a brand I was unfamiliar with till I saw it advertised for $40 Can. OK ratings on 2 bottles and better on the third. I had never tasted a peated finish rum.
First comment for all 3 - it is impossible to pour these 3 bottles without it dribbling down the side of the bottle. Second for all three: I found everything about them to be weak - weak smell, weak taste (except for the peated) and weak finish. having said that, this bottle had a sweet note on smell and taste of vanilla. Heat was hard to notice. Easy to sip but inconsequential!

No sugar added. Good taste from beginning to the end.
