I like this rum. I think a few people are being a little overly critical on this one. Good dry whisky like taste at first and then undeniable rum finish. Not my very top shelf but the next shelf down from that.
For a five year aged rum I was quite surprised. It was smooth with a hint of spice; woody and semi-tannic with good legs and nice body. Definitely one I seek out.
Bought this rum from Antigua to fill a gap at the minimum order value. I didn't have great expectations of this rum and thought you could use it for mixing cocktails or with cola. But there was a very nice surprise when I opened the bottle. The bottle for itself seems to be a historical pirate rum bottle, feeling like a rum drinking pirate :-).
Nose : chocolate and caramel, a mild and sweet, but also slight rum note.
Palate : also chocolate but with oak. The sweetness from the nose enriched with a little bit of pleasant spice and sharpness. And this all without any added sugar.
Finish : surprisingly long with a very nice soft and sweet typical rum note
Conclusion : well, nothing extraordinary with no WOW-effect, "only a typicar rum. But ... this rum can be bought for about 20 euros. For me the best rum I have ever drunk neat in this price category. A rum for every day. Blind tasting I would estimate it at 35-40 euros.
6 points for the relatively "ordinary" taste plus 1 point for not adding sugar and the low price.
I will buy it again.
Addition : try it with one ice cube. Even milder, even sweeter, even more palatable. Simply great
I like this for Tiki drinks. It has a drier taste to me. I use this instead of other dry rums like, Clement VOSP, Plantation Dry, and other Martinique rums, rums that have more a dry whiskey taste that is needed for a Tiki drink and then I add another rich or more funky rum to the drink. It is a good all around rum. I have trouble finding it.
English Harbour 5 YO
Duft: honning, sød frugt, let krydderi - 4
Smag: kraftig krydderi (Spice), let sødme - 3
Total: 7
English Harbor 5yr is delicious. A bit of oak and molasses. Smooth enough to drink on the rocks. A nice local choice at the all inclusive.
Duft af røde bær og fersken. Dog lidt sprit. Smag af vanilje. En smule tør. Ikke så bred i smagen, men en smule krydret. English Harbour har generelt nogle fornuftige serie, som ikke er high end, men heller ikke dårlige. (5. december 2021 i 1423)
The nose is sweet molasses, a little orange.
"When sipped like this you taste molasses and toffee. The oakiness of the rum also comes through giving a slightly bitter taste."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I think it has a very pleasant nose. Lots of molasses and vanilla. Spicy, but not artificially spicy. Taste wise, I'm not sure that I'm capable of picking out the individual notes, but it's very pleasant. It has a fairly long finish, pleasant as well. My feelings on this one may change as I mature, but I've spent more on rums that I enjoyed a lot less!
