El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

Drier than 12 and slightly less flavor, but still one of the best sippers out there. A bit pricey only when compared to other ED products, but much better value than Zacapa or Mount Gay.

Deep amber, mahoganey in color. medium legs that slowly drop. Nose is fruitcake & tobacco with a hint of charred oak. taste is orange peel and spice with a nice finish that includes a little leathery tobacco note. This was the rum that "hooked" me and the rum that all others will forever be forced to live up to.

El Dorado 12 is great and typically I like less aging in my rums. But there is something truly magical about the 15. One of the few rums that I will drink on its own, but will confess that it forms a part of my baller Mai Tai.

another favorite of mine this comes in 3rd (diplomatico and Plantation XO being 1st & 2nd) - this rum has an odd flavor to it that i cant quite name it. Im not very experienced in profiling rums/whiskys/wines, but it seems like it wants to be sweeter than what it is and just becomes different.

Just recently had this one. A lot of people prefer the 12 year, but I personally like the 15 better. Has strong aroma notes of caramel, wood, and vanilla. Tasting notes are cameral (again), earthy, and woody characteristics, has no burn on the finish

+ complex
+ mouthfeel
- too sweet for me

I like the oily mouthfeel, the complex flavours, especially after adding some drops of water and giving it time in the glass. However, it stays too sweet for me.

Hint: Adding even just some drops of another rum (in m case CDI 9 yo Ten Cane) brought it to another level and tamed the sweetness. Might be worth a try for others, too, with one of their favorite rums.

Found this on the shelf in a pub.
It's all the good ED stuff, and all the 15yo flavours are there. It's got that astringent caramel and woody weirdness, integrated in a wonderful way.
It's just smothered under a blanket of sugar that might make it 'smoother' but also more forgettable, with a weird cloying aftertaste I, for one, would rather be without

After tasting 12y old El Dorado, I was just eager to try more pricey but stronger and older one. They must be similar. Well, they don't.
Seriously, I would not be able to distinguish from some fancy cognac brandy. Really excellent.
On the nose strong and sharp alcohol, later fruity and oaky scent . The taste is really surprise. Not traditional rum with sugar cane taste, not at all. Medium fruity sweetness with very long gently dry and oaky finish. I would say, the taste is very close to e.g. Hennessy VSOP. While it is not exactly what I am looking for in rum, it is definitely exceptional spirit for exceptional moment

Nose is orange peel to me. I get wood up front finishing with vanilla and sugar.
