I tried this rum a few days ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. The best way I can describe this rum is it's like drinking a warm molasses bun.
I really liked this rum. It has hints of caramel and brown sugar. Can be enjoyed on its on or with your favorite mix.
Old rum produced on the banks of the Demerara River by the last distillery in British Guiana, El Dorado 8 years old is made from the mixture of several rums distilled in traditional stills, including one made of wood. The rum was then aged in oak barrels.
Mouth : The caramelized oak marks the entry into the mouth, it is smoky and burnt. The notes of roasting and molasses recall our fond memories. Once you have had this rum in your mouth, you can detect more ripe fruit on the nose.
The finish is quite smooth. Molasses and caramel are still present.
A rum that offers a typical profile of Demerara rums for a really good price.
Only 40% is the only problem here. It has the typical Enmore character.
It's a bargain for me.
Nose: Good nose, a little bit sharp but with a lot of dry fruits and Enmore sweetness.
Honey sweetness, melon, vanilla, bourbon wood, a lot of dry fruits like raisins (similar to ElD12).
For only 40% it's still very good.
Taste: It starts a little bit spicy and viscous. I like this viscous juice. There is vanilla with honey sweetness, some melon, dry fruits like raisins, plum and the typical Enmore wood.
Some bitter tannins are in the middle taste, it's clearly a good aged rum.
The finish is spicy, with aged wood, melon and some honey sweetness, nuts, almonds. Great.
It's pretty much what you get for a few bucks. At 40% it's still sharp and powerfull. I think you can also add some sugar syrup to it, to come closer to ElD15. Still a good rum for sipping, also great for mixing. I would rate it with 81 points.

This rum is absolute gold for the value. Generously enjoyable with plenty of molasses-y goodness to spare without being overbearing. However, it's a bit light for a Demerara so those looking for a the heavy, treacle delight of the Guyanese style you may want to look elsewhere in the El Dorado line. Though I highly doubt anyone would be truly disappointed by this beauty.
Im new to the rum game so i didnt know what 'hogo' or 'funk' tastes like. But i learned from the description that this is it. Its a bit of an acquired taste, i dont hate it but i dont love it either. It has a little bit of a whiskey vibe in the aftertaste if im not wrong
Lekker in de cola, benieuwd naar de 12 jaar oude versie
De eerste op ons rum/lama avondje. Oke, maar met gewone cola en dat ben ik moet gewend
It’s floral, there are notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits.
"It isn’t rough but it does have quite a spicy burn and finish. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Good to keep around. Sip it or mix it. Much more complex than the 5.
