I bought this rum in Puerto Plata, DR at the Monkeyland gift shop for $45 USD. It was recommended to my by a local who had worked in the Brugal distillery for 17 years. I had originally planned to visit the Macorix distillery while in port, but several people discouraged me from it. As a result, I bought two other rums while I was there (Barceló and Club Puntacana) for a very reasonable price. All in all, my visit to Puerto Plata yielded an excellent opportunity to buy Dominican rum that I don't usually see in the United States.
The Leyenda has a beautiful presentation - nice bottle and lovely color. And despite its lower 38% ABV, it has a longer (and pleasant) after burn than I wasn't expecting. Notes of cacao, caramel, coffee, oak and sweetgrass.
Great personality, interesting aroma, slightly hot on the finish
Helping a friend cross his boat to the Bahamas last Friday I was fortunate enough to be at Hope Town Marina with one of the finest rum selections I’ve seen in years. I finally got to try a few rums that have evaded me, Brugal Leyenda being one of them. Drank it neat at first very smooth very sweet nice easy to drink with lots of lingering depth. A bit more maple syrup like than I prefer but significantly better than Papa Pilar.
Brugal 1888 is one of my favorite rums. So after seeing Leyenda scores a whole point above it, I was really excited to try it. Not as easy to find, but eventually I got my hands on a bottle. Poured a glass of 1888 next to it, to compare it side by side…. and was disappointed. Leyenda seems very watery and overly sweet. Can not compare at all to 1888, which is much drier, and has completely different personality.
I do think Leyenda is heavily dosed. People who prefer rums on the sweeter side will love it. On the nose, clear notes of caramel, coffee and raisins. Not a bad smell, but also very sweet.
I’ll take 1888 over Leyenda every single time. Would be very interested in trying Leyenda with 0-5 g/L of sugar and at higher ABV.
It was my first better rum.
I was on holiday in Dominican Republic and I think I drunk it for 2 weeks:))
Bit of alcoholic taste but in balance with the tastes.
For me a deep rum and always remember to my Dominican vacation.
Delicious sipping rum. Sweet and fruity. Tasted like a fine rum mixed with a high end spanish red vermouth. Then I read the label in the back of the bottle: mixture of 80% aged rums and 20% spanish wines. Nevertheless, an excellent result.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

How dare you!
Smíchat mé milované portské (sherry) s ještě milovanějším rumem!
Jak mám být objektivní?!
Toto je trochu mimo běžné blendy.
Mě to samozřejmě uchvátilo, co vám mám povídat.
Portské (sherry), karamel, starý dub, tabáček...
Prostě: 9,3/10
