El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. Traditional tools are used in the distilling processes including three unique wooden stills. The rums rest until maturity in 45 gallon oak casks.

My rating will probably rise to a 10 the more I get to know this rum. The 12yr old is lovely but this is an obvious level above. Very rich, dark fruits, not too sweet and a touch of smokiness.
The above was my first reaction, rating at 9. Today it's dropped to a 7. It's obviously a deeper darker version of the 12, more complex and so on, but does this mean it's better? Not for me. I can't yet distinguish all the flavours but I do get an overpowering effect of raisin or prune juice which spoils it.
My views change when I look back at old reviews. Overall opinion of this rum is don't go near it for £80, get two bottles of the 12 yr old instead. This rum was too long in the barrel. For a rum at that price, you shouldn't need to add water to try and kill off the overpowering prune flavour. Diplomatico 2002 is around the same price and far far superior.
My favorite rum for sipping. Wonderful nose. Love this stuff.
Si tu n'as pas cette bouteille dans ton bar t'es un naze
One of the best addition to my collection.
Strong start with a sweet and subtle finish, great on the rocks.
Miss some body but there is long aftertaste with nice bur, a little bit to oaky for my taste.
A good sample of Dry Rum with lot of taste. Too many times Dry=less flavour, but not with El Dorado 21. This is one nicely balanced Rum with full scale of flavours from oak to spiciness.
Not because of the price-tag, but this stuff is REALLY freakin' good, people! Near perfect rum. Another solid entry from El~Dorado. Richness competes with oakiness, providing a taste-profile that has a nicely balanced sweet & smoky quality - buttery toffee and brown-sugar flavors intermingle with oak to rightly satisfy any pure rum-drinker's discerning palate! If not, well, then, I don't know what to tell you. Drink what you like, but I'm sticking to this.
This may not be the best rum available, but it gets a 10/10 from me. My son says it is too sweet. Not so say I ! If one likes the taste and nose of fresh warm molasses then you will not be disappointed. Adorable. My gold standard against which all other rums are compared.
Like fine scotch, every fine rum going into my mouth does so without hindrance from mixes, water or ice. Neat cant be beat.
'spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar'

There is an extra layer of oak in the profile.
"Notes of oak and a slight spiciness also comes through. The rum is very smooth and easy drinking but complex enough to ensure you savour each sip of the drink. The finish is long lasting."

Un rhum très cher mais il est vraiment complexe et mérite sa dégustation. Un goût puissant et corsé avec des notes de miel, de fruit de chêne et sucre brun.
