El Dorado 12-Year rum

El Dorado 12-Year

Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

After a long day, this rum is simple and refreshing. I enjoy drinking this one neat, over ice, or in a rum old fashioned. It is very smooth with minimal burn. Very well balanced and I enjoy how versatile this rum can be. Only negative part of it is I have to drive a couple hours to find it.

One of my favourite things is being in a bar with someone who have just discovered rum (as something that should be sipped, and not mixed with cola). They might have had a verving of Zacapa 23 and are willing to try more.
Then we order a glass each of the El Dorado brothers usually found in decent bars. The 12, 15 and 21 yo.

We open with the 12. It's rich and complex, and have quite a sting (atleast compared to the brothers). Then we continue with the other two.

I usually drink the 12yo only to compare with the brothers, but a few nights ago, a bartender friend of mine served me this, and on the side he served a slice of orange sipped in brown sugar. Absolutly recomended!

Quite nice. Try it. Tasty spirit and not too sweet.

Nice rum to sip. Smooth and a little too sweet in the end but still very pleasant. Good price/quality ratio.

Far beyond expectations for that price, flavourful classic guyana.

I like how it smells, great color, smooth, but the taste is a little too sharp. The first sip you taste alcohol. You won’t feel flavors for long as you do at El dorado 15. In my opinion I would save a few bucks more and get the 15 years.

I’m new to rum. So I’m still at the stage where I need rum to be smooth and a little sweet. I’m told this is sweet but I just can’t taste that sweetness as I’m overwhelmed with the strength and aftertaste.maybe down the road when I come back later I’ll enjoy it more but for now I’m just not ready.

The right amount of sweetness and vanilla flavor, great value best to enjoy chilled without ice. Great value.

Full and rich flavor although a bit of burn.
The 15 year old is more balanced but this is still a great rum
