Not as smooth as the Cristal, but definitely a different experience. Some alcohol on the nose and taste, a bit of burn. Colorful on the nose, I get mostly clove. Palate is a bit more diverse with light hints of vanilla and cinnamon, and a hint of oak, but clove still seems to dominate. Certainly not my favorite in a Daiquiri, but it isn't terrible. Good for mixing, a bit rough as a sipper, but would do in a pinch.
Comparing this to bacardi and other generic gold rums, Don Q is much preferred. Much more poplular among Puerto Ricans as well.
This poured a lighter color, definitely a pale gold. Not much of a nose, very light vanilla hint in there. The taste was pretty one dimensional too. I had higher hopes for this after trying Cristal. This one works better in some of the mixed drinks I've made with it.
Pretty smooth, not heavy on flavor, nice finish, no crazy after taste, great to mix.
Kräftiger, intensiver Rum, welcher sich sehr gut zum Mischen eignet.
It’s a fine light gold rum. Perfect for a rum and coke
Bought this to mix. Trying on the rocks to rate. Very sweet and boozy. No real nice aging characteristics at all, straight up liquor. Must mix this, not good by itself.
My “go to” Cuba Libre while I’m in Puerto Rico. Its much better that its Bacardi equivalent.
All the don q rums are a bit to agricolic for me. This one is no exception. Nothing special....

Sweet alcohol notes, a tiny hint of vanilla and maybe a touch of oak.
"You get sweetness but a fair hit of more metallic bitter notes. It has a pretty muted, yet smooth mouthfeel and a very short finish."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Arrgh, this rum be different! By Flint's bones, I wanted to hate this rum, but I be disinclined to do so. On the nose, she smells sweet, crisp, and spicy, with a bit of fruit... but not citrus! There be somethin' savory waftin' around there, but not so obvious to know what she be. And unless I am mistook, there be a hint of funk hidin' just below deck. As for taste, she be neither sweet nor dry, but she quickly opens up to a bright juicy fruit flavor, with banana comin' out on top. That turns into a spicy somewhat bitter grassy finish. Goin' down the hatch, she be smoother than most. As you find yourself gettin' three sheets to the wind, she gets a lot smoother. If you be one of those oak-vanilla-caramel types, this rum might not be the rum for you. Be she a decent sipper? Aye, why not! Some rums be fit only for cleanin' sword wounds. This NOT be one of them.
