With a 7.9 at the time of my writing, this is perhaps the most misleadingly scored rum on the website. Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is an unremarkable, overly sweetened rum with few distinguishing characteristics. It's like having a caramel, butterscotch, rum flavored liqueur.
This is the first Rum that I ever tasted and enjoyed. It absolutely opened up a world of flavor that I had not even considered. Revisiting it, the flavor profile is amazing, but the sweetness is too overwhelming for more than 1 drink.
When sipped the rum is very smooth and feels quite viscous. It reminds me both of Baileys (Irish Cream) and Drambuie (A Whisky Liquor). It is very sweet. The tasting notes on the site are very accurate vanilla, fudge/toffee sauce are noticeable as are notes of vanilla and a finish which is slightly bitter like cocoa which leaves a hit of oakiness on the taste buds. The finish is pretty short. It lacks the complexity of other 12 Year Old rum’s. There is a suspicious lack of burn or heat to this rum. There is also a lack of oakiness which I would expect from a 12 year old rum. Despite these facts, this rum is very thick when neat. Opening it up with a medium cube or sphere of ice does wonders for the sip. I recommend everyone try this rum, to know the potential of what rum has to offer, and that it goes extremely well with a bold cigar.
This was suggested to me by the owner of Liquor Warehouse in Hemet CA
Has not disappointed me. Extremely smooth. Drink this one ice or add a little coke.
I've been trying to launch into the world of more higher-end rums. I'm not really a sipper and so I prefer cocktails. This rum does not disappoint in any way and has become a new option for us in classic daiquiris or a rum old-fashioned. Wonderful caramel and oak, with hints of vanilla and citrus. It creates a very rounded flavor profile in either of the classic cocktails I mentioned.
GREAT rum for a great price. WILL allways like and drink
One of the bests I ever tried. Very gentle and smooth!
"The palate evokes chocolate sauce and the sweet toffee, fudge and tropical fruit flavours from the nose"
"The nose is dominated by notes of caramel, toffee and crème. On the back end of the aromas, I can detect a hint of smoke and pineapple"

Smells sweet. It is fruity, oranges, grapes and raisins with scents of chocolate and a sweet almost syrupy.
"The tasting notes on the site are very accurate vanilla, fudge/toffee sauce are noticeable as are notes of vanilla and a finish which is slightly bitter like cocoa which leaves a hit of oakiness on the taste buds. The finish is pretty short. ."

This rum is, so far anyway from all the 10+ more serious rums I have tried, my all time fav. Smooth, elegant and very tasty. A must have in the cabinet!
