The look:
The bottle is stunning and a classic by now. As soon as you see the green bottle you know what it is you are looking at. The rum has a great deep caramel colour and looks amazing in the glas.
The nose:
Its not all that strong on the nose. Its very smooth. I dont get that strong alcohol nose at all. There is caramel, and I dont really know. What ever it is, its an absolut delight.
The taste:
Its really, really smooth. No alcohol punch to talk about, just alot of great taste. I cant really point out specific notes. Its caramel and sweet, but i cant say I get all that many other notes. Its just amazingingly good. I could with ease go glas after glas with this and is an absolut hit in all ways. No after burn and but the taste lingers for some time.
Overall:
Amazing in all ways. It got the look, the nose and the taste. Its one of the must haves.
I test different rums in different styles, but when coming back to Diplomatico it never disappoints
If you like sweet, sugary and adulterated rum then this is for you. It has so much added sugar that it taste more like a liqueur than a rum. Too much added vanilla flavoring as well and has a syrupy mouthfeel. If you like rum then do yourself a favor and don’t buy this.
It is great aromatic position. I tried it with orange and unsweetened cocoa powder as producer recommends. Rich flavour and long finish.
Perfect to sip with ice or even without.
Goes well with orange juice.
Drank it for the first time on Aruba, loved the taste and it always brings back the holiday feeling. Pure with ice at it’s best but also good to mix with a coke
Good stuff. Adds a nice touch to a cocktail, and good enough for neat or on the rocks sipping. A step above most anejo Puerto Rico rums. Classic!
So smooth on ice. Hard to stop. Just try it and rate
Smooth, stays on your mouth. Alcohol taste is there but not too much.
I tend to like a sweetness to my drinks and this rum is great for that. Very delicious!
"The palate evokes chocolate sauce and the sweet toffee, fudge and tropical fruit flavours from the nose"
"The nose is dominated by notes of caramel, toffee and crème. On the back end of the aromas, I can detect a hint of smoke and pineapple"

Smells sweet. It is fruity, oranges, grapes and raisins with scents of chocolate and a sweet almost syrupy.
"The tasting notes on the site are very accurate vanilla, fudge/toffee sauce are noticeable as are notes of vanilla and a finish which is slightly bitter like cocoa which leaves a hit of oakiness on the taste buds. The finish is pretty short. ."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

When I switched from scotch to rum about ten years ago, a friend and I sampled dozens of rums to find the best sipping rum. I typically drink my rum neat, and this rum checked all the boxes for me: interesting but subtle flavor notes, smooth, not too sweet, and last but not least affordable.
