Perpetuating family traditions. A dry, very deeply elegant rum. The favourite rum of Hernan Parra, Dictador Master Blender. Aged in premium quality, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry. Aging time 25-35 years.

Шоколад, фундук и грецкие орехи. Мёд. Нотка ванили...
Один из самых любимых ромов.
С хорошей сигарой, получается фантастический дуэт!
Оценка 10.
8:Like the other rums in the range, the nose is marked by coffee, molasses and caramel. These are combined with a slight woodiness, reminiscent of maple syrup. This woodiness is well burnt, the caramel is quite dark, but it remains round, not sticky like charcoal. There's also a hint of roasted walnut, a slightly oxidized side. We take the roundness a step further with a brioche toasted with honey.
With a little air, the nose becomes less sharp and even more mellow. The molasses is still there, but this time it's liquorice.
7,5:The palate is rather lighter and less thick than one might expect. It is totally faithful to the traditional Spanish "ron" style, with caramel, vanilla, toasted wood and tobacco. The coffee is more subdued this time.
7,5:The finish is also fairly typical, of medium intensity. The maple syrup, on the other hand, lingers on the palate.
In comparison with its sibling Insolent, Perpetual falls short. Butterscoshi but weak!
Had back to back with Insolent and this at 1st taste (neat - no ice) was watered down. I left it to air for a bit and was surprised to see that it improved. The nose is butterscotch and burnt sugar (like a sugar daddy candy pop) taste is again burnt caramel with a long lasting tasty bitterness. The insolent is better in that it has more flavor and a hazlenut thing going on
My first rum from Colubia today :-). Dictador XO with sherry cask finish. I'm really excited.
Nose : honey, oak, salted caramell, nuts, toasted notes of ... whatever. It smells strong and I don't know, if I should like that. For me the smell is not really pleasant. It dosn't invite you to take a dram.
Palate : smooth in relation to the nose, with wood in the front. Hmm ... after some seconds walnut and coffee in addition. Intersting ... my first rum without any fruits in the nose and on the palate. And where the hell is the sherry cask finish ??
Finish : medium to long. Walnut and coffee are remaining. Nothing else. Pfuuh, really disappointing.
Conclusion : this rum is not bad, but also not really good. It's a real walnut-bomb with coffee on top. Nothing else and that is not enough for me to say that this is a good rum. Taste is 6 points. But .... regarding the high price about 80 euro I subtract 1 point.
This rum is much, much, much too expensive for what it offers. I have had several better tasting rums for half the price.
Thus rum has a nice coffee flavor. It’s not to sweet but sweet enough.
Destilován z medu cukrové třtiny, fermentace vlastním kmenem kvasinek. Blend se skládá z rumů starých 25 - 35 let zrajících v dubových sudech.
Perpetual je finišován v sudech po sherry. Měl by být nedoslazovaný.
Aroma: Mokré trouchnivějící dřevo, bonbónová nasládlost, pikantní koření, slaný a spálený karamel. Úplně na pozadí lógr.
Chuť: Káva, spálený karamel, dřevo. Velmi jemná.
Dozvuk: Káva, karamel a sušené ovoce. Střední.
Sladkost: 0/3
Celá lahev
Nenáročná pohodovka průměrnějšího rázu - vůně je hezká, ale v chuti docela nudí. 12y i 20y překvapivě (nejen) cenou o dost lepší.
The first word that comes to mind is "unique"
I am into my journey and this little gem is quite unique I feel.
Very toffee and coffee flavoured, very silky and syrupy at same time.
This was the first time finding a rum like this, In all fairness I have only had 3 South American rums.
It's a nice sipping rum if this flavour is you, I'm more and of vanilla spiced type of rum guy.
However for this I could make an exception.
Nice to sip neat or in the rocks, doesn't lose too much flavour with a mixer.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I really like the taste and smell of this rum!
Honey, coffee, toffee, oak, and even some bourbon.
But the aftertaste is harsh, just like it is with the Dictador 20 year, and this takes away from the overall goodness. I'm not sure if I'm the only one that feels the harsh aftertaste (I'm not reading about it in other people's reviews), but to me this makes it a less than exceptional rum. I prefer the Dictador XO Insolent to this, as it is sweeter and more rum like.
