Angostura 1824 12-Year

7,5:The nose of this rum is fresh and gourmand. We have candied, caramelized fruit and passion fruit, prunes After that burnt rubber, metallic notes come in.The wood is dry and fruits fermented with spicy quince compote. We find tannins, offset by a tart cherry.
Resting allowing a molasses to come more intense, with a hint of metal, acidity and some smokiness.
7,3:On the palate it is sweet at first with grilled bread with mineral or metallic character. Then we receive fresh fruit juice with pears, peaches, mandarine and quinces, some dried fruit, a bit later with litchi and longan, minimal smokiness and spicy wood.
7:The finish is soft, thin, dry, vegetal and sweet with longan, woody with tannins.

Au nez, je perçois, mélange à gâteau, caramel, vanille, banane qui laissent penser à un produit sucré ! détrompez-vous : ses subtiles notes fumées et son goût qui rappelle le cuir, vous feront sursauter.
Il me rappelle d’ailleurs le rhum El Dorado 21 ans, un véritable bijou que j’adore.
Je n’ai pas donné la note 8, car je pense qu’il manque un peu d’harmonie en bouche. Il demeure quand même un rhum à essayer. Ah j’oubliais, sa finale est corsée et assez persistante. ☺️

This should be an 8 or higher. The nice fruit notes and the smoothness when it goes down it really went above my expectations! A great Sipper!

I enjoyed this rum although I generally like rums to be a bit more sweet. For the difference in cost, I still prefer the Diplomatico Reserva but this is a nice change of pace from my normal selections.

I used to drink 1919 and I moved this one for sipping as I find 1919 a bit on the harsh side. So now I mix with 1919 and have 1824 neat. I enjoy mostly around Christmas season when all those smells and notes of the festive season (like that of the Christmas fruit cake) are in vogue.

I’m told the Oak cask this is aged in are old Scotch barrels, and there’s a hint of peat in the finish. An excellent, smooth and moderately complex Rum, a solid keeper

Too much wood and too much spices for me. Oak feels very strong, some honey and spices. Not one of the smoothest rums.
