Buen ron para combinar, superior a muchos de mayor precio, solo hay que saber al combinarlo bajarle ese extra de dulce que tiene
First time trying rum from peru...different for sure...a little sweet..fruity...dry going down..strong alcohol end...probably wont buy it again
This is domestic production where I live and they offer it in 1.75L bottles here, so it's very cheap for me (although there is cheaper, I honestly have no desire to touch it). I paid 57.90 soles for the big bottle, which today would compare with paying $6.70 for the typical 750ml.
Nose on first pour was rather foul; super sweet with an overtone of what I can only describe as rotting fruit. After taking a sip without letting it breathe, I quickly relegated it to mixer status. No idea if it opens up well, but I have experience with their 8, 12, 15, and XO, and the emphasis on sweetness was equally apparent with those, plus my experience with 8 is that it isn't a great sipper, so I don't think I'd like this one for that purpose.
If you're going to blend, you'll need to take the sweetness into account. I usually mix with sugar free pop, so it works very well for my own applications.
If I had to pay $15 or more for a normal sized bottle of this I absolutely wouldn't go back, but at $15.64 for 1.75L, it's unreal value. Honestly if you were having a party in Perú and wanted an incredible value for blends, this would be perfect. Seriously a party at Punta Hermosa, Pucusana, or Asia with this at the center would almost certainly be a good time.
One of the only Peruvian rums I've had, I didn't know what to expect. I got a lot of ethanol on the nose, but the taste was much smoother. Unfortunately, I suspect some additives, as there's a bit of a saccharine flavor. This probably mixes well, especially with citrus, but the aftertaste makes it less than great as a sipper for the price. Hints of chocolate make me wonder about a cocktail that played that aspect up... but I'm not going to spend so much on a bottle to experiment myself!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Nice smooth rum, I found the Cartavio Superior to be a bit dry and woody and the Cartavio Black to be nice but very sweet and fruity. The Cartavio Selecto strikes a nice balance between the two. Smooth with a sweet fruitiness at the start it fades to a nice carmel finish. Great rum especially for 32 soles (~$10) when in Peru.
