The bottle hints there are added spices and flavors, but if they are there, they were subtle to me. There is a suggestion of a chocolate flavored pipe tobacco I once enjoyed. That memory brought a smile, and bumped the rating up to almost a 6.ย
A great-tasting rum for mixed drinks, with just a hint of banana and spices. Will not overpower the other flavors in your cocktail. Very smooth.
First tried this sipping on it neat. A little more burn than for my liking, but overall not bad at all.
While I will say this is the best offering from Zaya, that's only because my personal opinion of their 16 year is as if they added about an ounce of artificial vanilla extract. Cocobana offers more complexity than their flagship bottle with offerings of banana, cocoa, and spices but that is not without what appears to be added sugar to embolden these flavors. I would put this rum in between Ron diplomatico reserve and Bumbu as it caters more towards the sweet rum drinkers while not being overly syrupy or cloyingly sweet. For an MSRP of $28 though it is a strong recommendation to at least try
Sweet and complex but not in an aged-rum way. It's got a slight spice kick, a hint of banana, a little heavier cocoa flavor and the ever present vanilla that Zaya is known for. It's fairly smooth and despite its sweetness and flavor profile, leaves me with a chapstick-like taste in my mouth when all is said and done. It's far from bad but it's nothing special either. It's definitely drinkable and not horrendously expensive. I probably wouldn't buy it again but I don't hate myself for trying it out. More for the curious than the connoisseur.
Only discernible note is vanilla, not very complex and pretty sweet, a little too much for my liking. Very easy drinking, good neat or on the rocks.
This may be a fine mixer a dessert rum but as a sipper on the rocks this rum screams artificial vanilla and banana. Too sweet even on the rocks. Just an ever so slight alcohol bite. Not sure what it was aged in for a supposed 16 years but it feels like it might need another 16 years...at least. Average rum at best. My 2nd Zaya rum and my last.
Was hesitant to purchase a flavoured rum at a mid-range price, however I was pleasantly surprised. Its not one of those overly vanilla'd rums but instead relies on a subtle cocoa and a bit of banana but it is smooth and still retains the high quality of the zaya 16-yr. A well rounded mid-range rum that I would recommend if wanting to try something a bit different.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is pretty good. Light but single note. Odd thing first tasting I got pineapple, banana and coconut. Third second time around I taste very strong tobacco and a touch of coconut.
