Light, dry, vanilla oak. Bit of burn. Very dry finish.
Apart from the vanilla, get a little bit of dried fruit, and lighter volatile top notes - icing sugar and sweet vanilla - from the column still.
Very drinkable, if a bit forgettable.
My palate seems to evolve over time. I'm quite new to rum, and I've come up an down with this bottle over the past few weeks. Had R L Seale and Hampden 8 on the go at the same time. I find the flavour on this too thin. I prefer something fuller, and of the three, Hampden wins easily.
Final thoughts, comparing with some less dry rums - El Dorado 8, Brugal 1888 and Chairman's Reserve Legacy- there's more depth, complexity and body in this.
I find the top notes a little discordant, but in the context of some less dry, cheaper alternatives, this one stands out as something balanced and pleasing.
Will I buy again. Probably, but a little while down the line.
Rhum sec. Arome de cannelle et épices. Alcool présent. Un peu cher pour ce qu'il offre., on s'attenderait a plus de rondeur et de douceur.
Complex
Nose: tropical fruit
Taste: prunes vanilla butterscotch
After: oak
The sorceress with a complex and harsh aroma, oily and brutal classic dry taste. Have a pleasant time. Still, it is bitter enough to have delight close.
I've traveled to Colombia but mostly had beer, aguardiente and some basic rums in mojitos. I had to travel to the Czech Republic to find out about this rum. Even most of my Colombian friends hadn't seen this in Colombia.
This is the rum that really sent me on my now two-year deep dive into rum and its history. And it all started in a tiny bar/liquor store hidden down a small walking street in Prague. This was served in a Rumhatten (a rum version of a Manhattan) with their own homemade cherry liquor and it was fantastic! So before I even get into my review of the rum, putting it in a Rumhatten is one of the best ways to drink this rum. And its GREAT in a Mai Tai paired with a sweeter rum like Appleton Estate or Diplimatico Reserva.
So La Hechicera (you don't pronounce the "H" so its "La Etch-ee-sera" is a simply wonderful rum. The nose is mild with just a slight wiff of alcohol and a nice even aroma of toffee and vanilla with a hint of orange. The mouthfeel is smooth and almost velvety. Its dry but not too dry. Once it hits your tongue you get a slow buildup of earthy tobacco a hint of coffee and subtle toffee and dry, dark fruits. Its very well balanced to me, but what you get out of it may be different (plus Im a little biased as this rum brings back some great memories).
The finish is mellow with an easy slow warmth sticking around your throat and chest. Nothing is overpowering. Nothing is too much or too in your face. This is just a great, dry, smooth tasty rum. If you don't care for the sweet rums, give this a try if you can find it. Unfortunately it's only available in about 14 countries, primarily in Europe and its not available in the U.S. according to their website.
This is a rum I will always try and keep stocked in my bar. Despite my bias and personal memories to this rum, objectively I would rate it an 8, but subjectively I have to give it a 9 overall because this bottle, and the rum inside it, always puts a smile on my face. :)
The taste is a bit sharp, too spicy and generally not very pleasant to taste. Aroma is a lot better, but I didn't buy a rum to just smell it. I also got a stomach ache after each tasting.
This rum is aromatic but with stronger alcohol aftertaste.
Osobitejsi ve vůni i chuti nez zacapa 23. Vždy si rad dam
Nice rich smell of caramel and toffee with orange fruity notes.
"It is zesty and spicy with more pronounced orange flavour. There is also a red grape flavour which is very pleasant."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
