Flor de Caña 130th Anniversary 20-Year rum

Flor de Caña 130th Anniversary 20-Year

Nicaragua | Aged | 45% ABV | Column Still (5+)

Created in commemoration of Flor de Caña's 130th anniversary, this rum is a special 90 proof luxury rum carefully crafted by Flor de Caña's Maestro Ronero, Tomas Cano, who has been perfecting his art for more than 35 years. El Maestro hand selected 20-year-old small bourbon barrels from the Family Reserve, which have been aging without artificial ingredients or added sugar at the base of Nicaragua's most active volcano.

I'm not a huge fan of the Flor de Cana rums, as I find them too uninteresting. Rum purists might like this, but there's not much to it.

Semi sweet/dry, with notes of caramel, spice, charred oak, vanilla, and almond. Ever so slightly better (and 5% stronger) than their 18 year old.

Nose is solid vanilla but burn is too much for this much age sweetness is balanced not too sweet like other flor de cañas cool for the collection the 18 and 25 are better

The nose is a mix of vanilla, citrus, and maybe a little banana. The alcohol is not overwhelming, and it is not bitter. In fact, you can smell the sweetness. The color is a deep honey gold. The 12 yr is one of my go-to rums for a casual sip. It is much lighter flavored than this anniversary rum. It is medium bodies, meaning the feel in the mouth is slightly denser than water, but it is not heavy. The flavors when the sip is held in the mouth are nicely balanced. One can taste the bitter from the bourbon casks, and it will build if you wait, but when you release it, a host of complex flavors emerge: Orange, vanilla, coconut, a hint of lime, and a hint of cherry from the bourbon casks. The finish is bold and rough as the alcohol blooms. The alcohol leaves the mouth a little numb, so it settles into a gentle memory of the component flavors. It would seem rude to mix this one, and I cannot imagine it would play nice with anything other than colas. On the other hand, it is a good companion for nuts or tortilla chips. While I really like this one, it is just a little too bourbony, so I give it an 8. I would even give it 8.5, but not a 9.

Mycket len till att börja med sen blir det starkare men bara positiv smak. Ingen spritsmak och mycket smaker.

Smooth with great flavor. Neat and after dinner. No burn, did I say smooth.

Sampled as part of the Austin Rum Society in April 2023. This one was the best of the four we tried. Quite sweet, a little oak but not overdone, smooth. My understanding is it is 45% ABV and minimum 20 year aged. Excellent.

The first flor de cana I have tasted and I must say I like it very much. Little complex whiskey like with a little fruit in it. Bit smoky. Also a little bit woody. Very small drawback is that it burns little a bit in my throat but after a few sips it’s over. If it didn't have that I would have given it a 9, but now I give it an 8. A nice one.

A very smooth sipping 45% alc. drink. Elegant woody aroma. Its taste is more straightforward than complex. Reminds me of sugar cane juice, of course not so openly sweet, with coffee hint in the end and a light after-burn. Nice amber color. Will be good on a hot summer evening, when one want something not so complicated.
