A bit woody but not super smooth. Good for the price though! I usually like my Panamanian rums finished in a sherry or cognac cask but this is an everyday type rum. Cane Island has a wide selection of mid range rum Ive been working through. So this is a great way to spice up variety although it won't compete against higher end Panamanians.
Got this as part of a tasting. It was light with notes of vanilla and tobacco. The finish was a bit off.
Nice, light, semi-sweet nose. Flavor is weak, almost watered down but has some sweetness coming through with some deeper notes of oak, spice, caramel, and a hint of bitterness. Finish has a light burn. Overall, not great but can be used in a pinch.
The nose of this rum is a mixture of citrus and wood, and the alcohol actually causes the nose to burn slightly. There are no musty scents, it is all sweetness. The flavor has notes of banana and citrus with that sugary sweetness you can taste if you put too much sugar in lemonade. Compared to a recently tasted rum that was aged in a whiskey cask, this one is more refined and much smoother. The burn of alcohol is much lighter than the nose would suggest. It blends will with the overall flavor and does not overpower the more subtle flavors. The finish is lightly peppery fading into sweet. On the tongue, it has a full-bodied weight which adds a nice sensation when just sipping it. The website says it was tropical aged, which it interprets as being more intense. Perhaps that accounts for the balance between alcohol and the other flavors. In addition to being a good sipper, it should mix politely with traditional fruity rum drinks. It will not disturb a cola, but it also does not offer any flavor that would enhance the cola, so I think it would be a waste. Being a good well balanced sipping rum with nothing else remarkable, I am rating it a 7.
This is a mild rum on the lighter side. The flavor was not bad but there needed to be more of it.

Another $20 bottle worth every penny. I compared it to Abuelo and find this superior to them. Not too much sugar added like Abuelo that's why it gets an extra star. It isn't anything special but the rock bottom price gave it another star. Kind of even tastes like Abuelo but without the added sugar or price! I detect notes of toffee, tabacco & oak. Like I said, good bang for the buck!
