The Compagnie des Indes Cuba is a single cask rum which was stored in oak barrels for 9 years and then bottled in cask strength without filtration. The distillery from Cuba is not known. The rum has 58.7% alcohol and is bottled without additives. There are 255 bottles.
The nose... the nose is so different for me. It is dominated by the smell of yeast. A fresh block of yeast. It's totally fascinating. Why... I don't know. Over time, more an more barrel notes come through. Oak and vanilla. Some roasting aromas. Hardly sweetness or fruit. On the palate, the rum is very spicy. Some liquorice and vanilla swing along. But then more fruit. Fresh fruits. The alcohol is super integrated. The finish is long and intense with the mentioned aromas. Exciting.
I did not totaly understand the rum and need to try the rum more often. But that also makes him so fascinating and good.
