The Companero comes from Denmark from the bottler 1423 and is made from a Panama Molasse rum, which was allowed to store in oak barrels for 12 years. The rum is bottled with 54% alcohol and probably has no or only small added sugar. Approx. 9g/l. The rum comes in a black bottle and the whole design and also the information on the bottle are rather telling nothing and should be urgently revised. The lettering Ron-Rum-Rhum alone is a total no go for me. The price is set low at 35-40 Euros.

Immediately after opening, it becomes clear what the rum has to offer. Strong notes of dark chocolate, cocoa and hazelnut flow out of the bottle and glass. It is worth it to let therum breath. There are also some light barrel notes. The alcohol provides a certain sharpness but due to the dominant chocolate note is quite pleasant. When drinking, the rum shows very strongly what it has already announced in the nose. Intensely chocolatey, almost creamy is the rum on the tongue. The alcohol makes the whole thing warm and unfolds the aromas in the mouth. If the rum has other flavors, they have difficulty presenting themselves here. Barrel notes with a little spice are perceptible. In the finish it stays sweet with a little more nut and also some wood. The finish is not long, but it is okay.

Clearly, this rum is a matter of taste. I am also honest that I have a problem in believing that no additives have been used here. At least I would be interested to know how the bottler was able to add chocolate notes to a 12-year-old rum so creamy and intensely. Must be awesome barrels. And all this in the low price segment. Since the presumption of innocence applies, there is a good Rating from me, because i realy like the rum and the whole thing is not expensive.

Simply delicious. At 54% it can be strong, but if you put a bit of water in it and let it sit for about 20 minutes, The flavor really comes out.

Rum som kupoval na základe recenzie čiže som vedel čo asi čakať. Neodolal som a ovoňal ešte vo flaši. Odporúčam skúsiť - silný a netradičný rum!

Good desert rhum, taste of chocolate but not too sweet

Couldn't believe the light amber colour considering it comes in a black bottle, at 54% alcohol and smells of dark chocolate. Amazing stuff but so very unusual. I'm completely confused how to mark it. Swaying to a 9 but it's so un-rum I can't! Anyway, whatever the hell this is it's strong and very tasty.

In the nose you get a very dark, very nutty flavour, scents of Hazelnuts for example.
This also continues in the mouth, paired one or two other tastes that disappear quickly.

To me the whole rum is like a dark premium Nutella. And not really more. It is not bad, but i think you really must love this taste to love this one. Plus side is, that the 54% are barely noticable. But in the end it misses a broader taste profile, a broader character. 1423 has far better Panama Rums in their S.B.S collection.

Used it in Chili con Carne once, came pretty good.

Strong almost overpowering taste of dark chocolate, great for mixing with coke.

Wow, this rum kills it when it comes to chocolatey taste. Surprisingly bright color for that amount of dark chocolate flavor that pours out of the glas. Amazing nose and palate and the creamy aftertaste lasts for minutes. The alcohol is perceptible but one wouldn't expect that the Companero Panama Extra Añejo comes with 54 % vol. - it's still sweet and smooth and just well-balanced. Absolute recommendable if you are into sweet rum and looking for something special.

Aroma: Chocolate, cacao, hints of citrus

Body: Chocolate, cacao, hints of orange

Finish: Chocolate, cacao

Conclusion: You won't notice its high alcohol strength at all. Chocolate and cacao dominate everything else. It isn't a complex, but a very tasty rum. You should try it.
