I have been VERY reluctant to try these newcomer rums to the USA from Haiti. The bottles just seemed like another gimmick to get our money. A descendant of the Barbancourt family is the main one leading the way for these clairins mixed with agricoles. So after doing some research, I finally decided that today I would become a guinea pig again and be the first to try a bottle and review it.

The aroma is of an artisan cachaca, the taste eventually introduces a mild burn as from a premium tequila, and all sorts of fruit flavors slowly release themselves while swirling this around in the mouth. As my title says it, there is a lot going on with this one. I am so glad that I tried it and I like it even better than Barbancourt 15 year. And this entry level from this company only went for $23 US today. This one is unaged, but the aged versions are done in oak barrels that once held cognac.

So how strong is the aroma and taste? I mixed one part of this rum with two parts pineapple juice and the aroma and taste still prevailed!!! You get the picture. For those who love the aroma and taste to be in your face, go for it! This one is definitely not for wimps.

Ak Zanj is one of my favorite brands but I knew going into this that unaged agricoles just aren't for me. This one will definitely go in cocktails, alone I can't mistake the distinct BBQ sauce note on the finish. Not too "bring", which is a plus.

Aroma - fresh mango followed by fresh sugarcane, light earth, minerals, and cherry

Taste - table sugar followed by cured ham, light brown sugar, green leaves, and a saltwater finish

This is a blend of 2 styles of rum, Clairin and Rhum Agricol. The taste is similar to a Jamaican white (sweet, floral, ripe/rotten tropical fruit, banana) and Rhum Agricol ( grassy earthy). It has some heat, but man this thing drinks easy. The bottle is really handsome and looks great on display. At $24 this is an extremely great value.

tasted 1/19/22 at Laka Lono
This version seemed more complicated to me, with an earthy aroma. My notes indicate it was "not as fun."

Tasted at Laka Lono on 1/19/22. Pours clear. Fantastic agricole aroma. Doughy and yeasty. Not unlike the aroma of Rivers Rum. Delicious licorice flavors. With a few drops of water, this becomes salty!

I like clairin, a lot. I "get" agricole. Unfortunately, I just don't think they blend harmoniously, creating a harsh earthy flavor straight.

Tried in a daiquiri, the harshness is totally wiped away, and it's pleasant... But most subtle flavor is lost. It's just a soft, slightly vegetal but slightly sweeter drink. Not bad at all, but not exceptional.

we just tried this at the suggestion of a bartender in Baltimore and I'm loving the banana and slight sour funk, very mixable

For a white rum, this one is tasty. This is a blend from rhum agricole and clairin.
Glad to find this selection will try now the aged one.
Nose: typical Agricole style rum and cachaca.
Taste: herbal, sugarcane, sweet.
