I found this particular rum to be very nice, unfortunately this brand for whatever reason has gone up in price across the board in my region putting this in the same price category as much higher quality rums.
Iโve used this rum from daqs (by FAR my favorite for the price), sipping with a cigar, fair amount of tropical drinks you can think of-skip the veg and just use this to bring more complexity vs the grass. This rum is extremely under rated IMO for the price. Itโs great for introducing people to rum, and if you donโt like this for the price as a rum drinkerโฆidk what to say-itโs not bland. It does not taste like whiskey, it tastes like rum.
Definitely a step up from the Eclipse. This is a good rum. Oak and vanilla for sure and add in banana. And a tasty oak profile. Sip this or add as a mixer to Coke.
So so many outstanding reviews of mount gay. I just don't understand? The XO was a complete rip off so I got this. It just seems to me to be a very dull, plain and simple rum, but way better than their overpriced XO. I gave this a 7 instead of a 6 because it beats their XO. I gave MG a 2nd, 3rd & final 4th try. Not going back, hopefully for ever.
Tried neat just after opening. Big mistake. Harsh. 43% abv and sure as hell tasted like it. Thought bottle was mislabeled and was drinking whiskey. Okay I am exaggerating but given that I have had MG eclipse and XO triple cask not impressed at all with either I was ready to just admit that MG rums are just not for me. I gave this a good 15 minutes added little bit of ice and it really transformed into a really nice sipper. The whiskey taste is still there but so are other nice subtle flavors and subtle sweetness and the harshness was toned down. Really very nice Bajan rum.
Aged in Whiskey and Bourbon barrels.
Nose: Rich and wild. Smoky, wooden barrels. But also fruits an freshly cut sugar cane.
Palate: Pretty dry, a bit smoky and a bit sharp. No sweetness. Warm body with a long finish.
I donโt like it, but I respect it.
Smoky, caramel and whisky flavours. Whisky flavours not my cup of tea but a very good rum still
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

New to rum, but the smell of this is amazing. At first I thought it was banana. As Iโm going through the bottle, I am tasting the charred barrel, caramel, even cherry, and other flavors. Taste is good, but the smell is divine. What could be better than this?
