Mount Gay Black Barrel is a small batch, handcrafted rum created by master distiller Allen Smith. It is a blend of both matured double pot distillates and aged column distillates which are finished in Bourbon oak barrels.

Light and smooth. Sugary sweetness up front. Burn in the back, a little unexpected. Barrel flavor comes through without being overwhelming. Slightly complex but nothing phenomenal.
Bought a bottle of this. Took it round to friends. Didn't get to sampling much of it, but enough to be satisfied I tried it, but happy not to buy it again.
Wasn't much of an upgrade on the Eclipse, still young and undeveloped, although easy to drink. The char adding something but not enough to elevate it's overall character. Too muted in flavour for me, and for the money, I'd say RL Seale or El Dorado 12 have more depth and interest.
Smooth and flavourful with a gentle burn without harsh aftertaste
Surely one of Mt Gays finest.
Golden colour with a tinge of orange in the glass.
Oak comes to the fore, Smokey and leaves a peppery tingle on the tongue.
IMO far too good to mix.
Enjoy, graham.
While Eclipse is great for just about everything, the black barrel is even better. It seems like a bit of a waste to mix it, but it is a GREAT mixer. Black is smooth and calm straight.
A much better flavour profile than Eclipse. This one is good enough neat with an ice cube, but I would rather drink it with coke and lime.
nice and sweet which is always a winner for me. Decent aftertaste which stays
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The bourbon touch is definitely there, making it a smooth woody rum, easy to drink and great value for money.
