Vzorek #8 na RumFest Praha 2020
V pořadí druhá Jamajka na festivalu a opět paráda.
Edit: (lahev) Ve vůni přezrálé banány, bylinkový sirup a ředidlo. V chuti dominuje mix nahnilého ovoce, medu a anýzu. Po polknutí mirabelky a opět bylinkový šmrnc. Dozvuk je štípavý, trpký a velmi dlouhý.
Opravdu velmi dobrý a komplexní jamajský rum.
Edit 30.7.2023:
Aroma: Přezrálé tropické ovoce (banány, ananas), květiny, vanilka. Vše v lehce jódovém hávu.
Chuť: Mocně ovocná s příměsí dezinfekce.
Dozvuk: Opět silně se ozývající ovoce (banány, švestky, blumy) mísící se s jódovostí. Dlouhý a šťavnatý.
Lepší plnění než HV MMW 7yo z roku 2022.
Today I have a 9y tropical aged Clarendon in my glas. I already had a 17y Clarendon from Plantation, which was very good IMHO. Therefore I will compare this two.
Let's start. After 10min in the glas I have a typical Clarendon nose with many anise.
The nose is strong, it needs time. First smell is anise, then some sweeter notes like dry fruits, cocoa and caramel. Then a lot of orange peels and some wood. After 45 minutes flowery notes appear, the nose became sweeter with caramel and floral notes, not as sharp as at the beginning.
The nose of Velier is a little bit sweeter and offers almost the same aromas as Plantation. I'm impresed because Velier has 8y less of aging.
Plantation is even more on the anise side. Velier is slightly better in my opinion.
The taste is strong, starts with sweetness (caramel), oranges, some wood and then a lot of anise.
The alcohol tingels in my mouth, everything became very intensive. Now the middle taste begins, the anise is rising and the spice, orange peels are spreading everywhere in my mouth with tannins from the wood. My mouth gets very dry.
The spice is rising again, the finish starts with mint and anise. Then orange peels, wood and leather. In the aftertaste I get orange peels, then leather, mint and sweet notes of caramel.
The Plantation is a little bit simpler with more anise and oranges. I would not say there is a huge difference in the agind. I would rather say Velier has more tannins and should be older. I like the sweeter notes in the Velier, this rum offers more than Plantation. Plantation is therefore milder and easier to handel.
Velier is more complex and again the winner. It's not an easy going rum, I think it's for experts. If you are a beginner, don't waste your money this rum is not for beginners.
I would rate it with 91 points. It's clearly the representation of the Clarendon profile with anise and orange peels which is very concentrated and with a nice sweetness. This was a fresh opened bottle, I will do some more tastings after some time.

Nose - a lot of caramel and brown sugar mix with some chocolate and tropical fruits, Taste - very bourbon-like flavor, a mix of caramel and brown sugar without spice
Compare with two more rums from the same company:
Сambridge 13YO, 62,5% rum - a lot of fruity brown sugar on the nose, the taste is a fruity mix of pineapple and coconut, with cough syrup finish.
Long Pond 12YO, 63% rum - a lot of fruity pineapple and brown sugar on the nose, the taste is a fruity mix of overripe pineapple and coconut, with an herbal cough syrup finish - best choice!!!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Aroma is nice with wood, vanilla and fruits. First taste is fruity sweet, after comes alcohol burning (62%) and wooden dry on palate. Continues in long ester funky aftertaste. Remindes me Overproof Hampden. Good rum for experienced drinkers, but missing something special to get 10 points...
