I love Rum Fire. Truly and deeply. But it is so hard to mix with. Thatโs why Wray & Nephew will always have a slot in my bar. Brings the funk but plays well with others. And the Wray and Ting is the best cooler in the world.
I know itโs not really meant for sipping, even though apparently Jamaicans do, but I had to try.
Too powerful for me. Tasty enough, fruity, grassy and fresh.
Added to coke or most mixers I still find it overwhelming.
Anyhow, I had to try it, and having done so, โstill not convinced โ, but wonโt be rushing to get another bottle any time soon.
Very spirity taste at first but with nice funkiness coming right after. I have only tried it straight so it kicks like a mule but i bet with a bit of dilution it is an amazing sip and even better in a daiquiri.
Revisit: 8->9 I love this rum, it takes some getting used to but now I'm hooked. Use a splash in any rum mix to kick up that rum funk flavour instantly. Works well in milk clarification cocktails too. I tried it in Wray & Ting, but I wouldn't say I liked the matching of flavours as I felt the funk somehow got lost. I love it in my new favourite mai tai recipe: 1 oz Plantation Original Dark, 0.5 oz Wray & nephews, 0.5 oz El Dorado 8 years, 0.5 oz Pierre Ferrand Orange curacao, 1 oz orgeat, 1oz lime juice
Recommended in a daiquiri or diluted with some water. Drinking this neat will kill you.
When I was ordering this at a bar, the person next to me said he got a bottle and put it in his gas tank. I laughed, but after tasting it, believed it! Itโs definitely got a sharp bite and can certainly put hair on your chest.
Highly regarded and cheap? Certainly something to try, but I decided to show restraint and bought a 375ml bottle. Whew.
Smells like turpentine and molasses. Tastes like rotten garbage. You can talk funk all you want, but it is so strongly unpleasant. Even a 1/2 oz. in a Mai-Tai with 3 other rums couldn't hide the nastiness. Tried it in a rumrunner with lots of juices and other liquors... and threw the glass of it away after half way through drinking it.
I didn't even use a quarter of the bottle before I threw it in the trash. Awful and can't seemed to be managed by using small amounts. So what's the point in ever having this? So glad I didn't get a full sized bottle to throw out.
I think the raves about it are people pulling a prank.
Funky, banana and fruity flavours, but clean as well. Smoky, almost similar to lightly smoky mezcals. Great in cocktails. A must have behind the bar.
It's all that's amazing about Jamaican funk. Heavy overripe fruit aromas added by a mild sweetness like caramelized banana. The pallet is like the nose with mild heat and more fogo and funk. Somehow a sipper or amazing in rum forward drinks. But Wray and Ting is the standard for a reason!
Get notable citrus and vegetal/grassy aromas.
"Despite the funk and grassy aromas there is still a fair amount of sweetness on the nose. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

this stuff is used all over Jamaica for everything from cleaners to mixed drink, even as a headache remedy ( just rub it on your head.).
