Real McCoy Single Blended 5-Year rum

Real McCoy Single Blended 5-Year

Barbados | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

The Real McCoy is a blend of rum produced from the distillation of blackstrap molasses, using a combination of both column and pot stills. The rum is aged for 5 years in Kentucky bourbon barrels, then blended with Bajan spring water.

The Real McCoy rum's heritage is based on the story of Bill McCoy, the pioneer rum runner of the prohibition era. McCoy fueled the Roaring Twenties by delivering over 2 million bottles by sea to New York speakeasies. He became well known for always delivering undiluted alcohol, unlike other rum runners who cut the liquor with prune juice, wood alcohol, or even turpentine, That is why he and his product became known as "The Real McCoy."

Rich and deeply sweet aroma. Tastes exactly as it smells, rich, dark, and sweet with spicy finish.

I was really let down by this rum because I was expecting it to be very good, but it just tasted like any other rum. Nothing special at all about it.

The extra time spent in "heavily charged" oak gives this one a bit of a smokey whiskey note that isn't my favorite in rum. I'll stick with the cheaper and "cleaner" 3-year. Still good!

On the nose I smell burned caramel and honey, when I sip it, it is suprisingly smooth! Totally not what I expect for a 5y old, when it goes down it is smooth as well with a little spice kick at the end. This rum leans strongly on the honey taste but it gets balanced out by the aging process so it is not overly sweet.

After I tasted it, it justifies the price tag of around 30 euro's for a 5y aged rum.

Surprisingly complex for it's age and price point. Banana and baking spice are present but not overpowering. Oak and caramel as well. Very pleasant for sipping.

EN: a rum similar to the taste of whiskey: caramel, vanilla, and a hint of wood. it's the first mccoy I'm trying, in principle it seems to me under doorlys but I still have to try)

to be appreciated with all the rums "made by" foursquare - clean rum, without added sugar

a rum between 7 and 8, but closer to 8

Every bottle leaving foursquare screams quality.
Being only a 5 years old this rum is already packed with caracter

It's pure unadulterated rum from a very respected distillery. Very solid mixer, and decent sipper. Light buttery, oaky, bourbon taste. If you're a bourbon drinker you will like this.
