Thoughts: An unusually high calibre rum from Captain Morgan known in the UK for making average rum that's added to a mixer. This rum is thoroughly great by itself or on the rocks and has the characteristics of a higher price rum: dark, rich, sweet and tasty. £45 in the UK is a surprise as I would pay more for this and very easy choice for a purchase and I guess that's why we opened our second for this review.
Rating: 8/10
Smell - slight burn, dark caramel, vanilla, lightly spiced, light green banana
Taste - very sweet, rich, chilli spice at the start turning into Christmas cake spice
After Taste - medium finish, slightly spiced with vanilla
I was hesitant to try it. You look at the bottom of the rankings here and it dominated by Captain Morgan. “Terrible rum, bought it for the bottle.”
I took the risk and picked up a bottle. Glad I did. Very strong vanilla taste with only a slight aftertaste. While I don’t think it as good as some people claim, it is pretty good. Bang for the buck, absolutely!
Punches above its weight class for price. At the end of the day it’s spiced rum, but it’s certainly a league above your standard captain. Stick it in the freezer and it thickens up a bit and is a real treat with dessert.
I really wanted to like this rum, I really did.
The vanilla is strong to the point of being cloying. The after taste is sour.
Just not good.
Its on the sweet side but a good value rum. Tasty stuff!
Captain Morgan’s intention was to make a sipping room, but they overdid the sweetness a bit on this one in my opinion. However, I consider this an amazing way to upgrade a rum and Coke 2 ounces of this on the rocks with Coke and a squeeze of lime is absolute heaven.
It's smooth, very tasty on the rocks and readily available. For some overly sweet, but I enjoy it.
This rum is smoooth and spicy, it has just the wright amount of sweetness.Great on ice.
Captain Morgan was actually a 17th century Welsh pirate...

Sweet and slightly sticky. Nice dark colour. Goes down easily neat.
