United States | Light | 40% ABV

Bacardi Superior Rum is the original Bacardi rum, dating back to 1862 when Don Facundo Bacardi Massó purchased his first rum distillery in Cuba. 150 years later, Bacardi Superior is now manufactured in Puerto Rico, but the recipe remains largely the same.

A unique strain of yeast discovered in the Cuban sugarcane fields is used to produce Bacardi Superior rum. The rum is filtered through charcoal, a process pioneered by Bacardi, before and after it is aged in oak barrels for at least one year.

Most of the awful reviews, I would wager, are from snobs. Which is fine, a bit of snobbery is definitely needed in any niche community. But I think sometimes, that snobbery can lead to hyperbole, especially when something extremely popular is the topic of discussion.

Is Bacardi a "good" rum? No. It's not very smooth, it doesn't have any unique flavor to it, and it won't impress your friends. But it's not a "bad" rum either. If I were in the mood for rum, and this was the only thing I could find, I certainly wouldn't pass it up. I wouldn't be ashamed of Bacardi the way that I have been some other rums.

I can't say I recommend it, hence the lack of a positive rating, but I can't say I'm against it, hence the lack of a negative rating. This is a generic, default rum.

This really isn’t rum. It offers no rum flavor. It is a serviceable utility mixer for blends where generic alcohol works, but it doesn’t have much value beyond that.

I enjoy this mostly when I go out for more than just a couple of drinks... mainly because at that point I don’t care what I’m drinking and it’s usually the cheapest!

Wow not so good straight. But good for mixing if you want to keep a rum bite in your rum and coke. But has a heavy burn straight.

For me, mixing makes this generic rum tolerable...

Burns. Alcohol. Gasoline. Still yet, drinkable; it has some taste.

It's Bacardi. What else is there. Only really good for mixed cocktails and frozen drinks. Let's keep it at that.
