Palate cleansers

Usually if I'm doing a few tastings back to back, I'll rinse out my glass with some  water then just drink the water from the glass. Cleanses my palate and allows me to use the same glass and saves me some dishes.

Ginger works with sushi?

I think with perfume testing they sometimes have coffee to sniff in between? I wonder if there's something comparable for rum, because for me it's actually my nose that doesn't seem as 'good' after a few tastings
