Help identifying Mount Gay - “Collectors Blend”?

Firstly hello all, new here. Probably something I should have joined a long time ago given my love for rum!

To cut a long story short - my dad visits Barbados regularly and has a contact within the MG distillery. He was given this bottle as a gift (and as such its origins were not questioned!).... an internet search/ image search comes up with nothing. The bottle is as seen, in a cloth bag. No other info.... anyone got any ideas? Just really want to see if it's something to store away for a special occasion or something I should just crack open!?

Great question. I would not open this. Not that it will get better with age as wine absolutely can when stored correctly. But still the value may increase by a lot if unopened. I would reach out to Mount Gay and try to find out exactly what you have. Be completely honest and if it turns out to be something that

Nice question. I would not open this yet. No way. Not that it will get better with age because it is not wine so once it is bottled that is it. But I would for sure, at the least try to reach out to Mount Gay to find out if it is really something special or more or less a label they put on for those that have a connection with them, something like those that they may give to a visiting dignitary or VIP.  There is no reason for them to lie if you contact them. For all you know they may just say it is normal XO but you never know.

Way toooo much Pirate here. I'd be pissed if I leave ANY rum behind. Drink it now! I once got hold of a special JBally bottle. Gone but the memory will live in eternity!

1. Always open the rum but to share with others that will appreciate it, feel free to invite us

2. probably a 1off expression that is not sold in the market, you see this often with barrel selects

Me personally, I'd keep it intact until another could be found! I get the argument for what's the point in having it and not trying it, but I'd spend a reasonable amount of time doing further research and trying to find another (if it is affordable for you, maybe these can't even be had on the market - which would make it even more valuable in my opinion). Part of me would want to try it, but the majority of me says wait!

That's a tough call I think I would have to crack it open and try it. Why have a Ferrari and keep it In the garage and not drive it? Leaving Barbados in the morning or would research it more for you. Sounds like your dad has an awesome connection. Enjoy or save for your childrens inheritance.

Judging from the color of the rum, it is aged quite well. The presentation is also on the premium side. I would not crack it open. It appears that these bottles are very special gifts for very special people.
