Eat your heart out

A few years back I stopped at a gas station liquor store to check out the sipping rum possibilities. On the shelf were some old dust covered bottles of Guatemalan distilled Zaya. Bought one and took it home. The stuff was dark, chocolate colored dark. It was almost devine on the palate. I looked it up online and saw articles indicating the Guatemalan distilled Zaya was the best of a good rum. I rushed back and negotiated with the owner for the lot of it. I pointed out no one, apparently, wanted it as it had been on the shelf for a decade and here I was wanting to buy the lot of it. He knocked $5 a bottle off the price. I took it home and after sipping a couple bottles an saving the rest for special occasions. My rum drinking wife erred one day and brought some out to open. After I squawked she has taken to calling it the "sacred Zaya". Still on the prowl for more. I know it is our there here in the region of spiced rum drinkers with no appreciation for sipping rum.
