Short rum journey...where to go from here

Greetings!

I've always been attracted to the world of rum and started a while back with Zaya, Diplomatico,Bumbu...then found Foursquare. Enjoyed most of their rum but, lately, I was wondering if I'm missing anything out there (most likely). Agricole rhum "sounds" interesting, however, I would not know where to start. Do you, fine folks, recommend a good rhum to start with (no sugar added)? I'm in SoCal...

Much appreciated!

Thank you very much! Today is my day off and will be hunting for some of these rums. I saw Rhum JM, Clement, Appleton, El Dorado, St Lucia at our local Total Wine.

Hey AdiO - I like Foursquare ECS rums, but the ones that I have had have all had a similar flavor profile.  There's a world of other rums out there.  Aged and unaged agricoles are a good place to start, but consider also rums from Guyana (like the El Dorado line), Jamaica (Appleton for an easy transition from Foursquare, Worthy Park or Hampden to jump in the deep end), or St. Lucia Distillers.

For some ideas on the range of rums and what you might want to try, the Lone Caner has a good list of what he considers Key rums of the world.

Somehow it seems that almost everyone starts with the sweet Spanish style. :-) Was with me no different, although my rum love began with an Appleton V/X.

Agricole Rhum are in a whole other world at home and very tasty if you are not on sweet.

Rhum J.M XO is a very good choice, I can also recommend the Clement XO, I had yesterday in the glass.

Enjoy it to gain experience.

AdiO,

I have done my rum journey from sweet Spanish styled rum via English styled rum to Agricole's.

I still have a few Spanish styled that I like and quite many from the English school.

When it comes to Agricole's I have lots of favorites.

My advise about where to start in the Agricole world is quite clear.

Rhum J.M XO or La Mauny XO.

If you want to go for something less aged, go for Rhum J.M.
