@vomi1011 I agree with you with Black Tot 50. It is so good that I had to buy an extra bottle of it. If we can nominate a best buy rum I would say Hampden estate 8y. I am still surprised how much you get for the price for 67 Euro (In Denmark)

I will have to go with the Zafra 30. I would like to get a sip of the Black Tot 50, but I don't think that will happen as I have never seen it available anywhere in North America.

This is the best rum I have tried for the first time in 2020. I choose to report the best ones in a few different categories. Latin style: Cubaney Centenario 25-30-year. Bajan style: Mount Gay 1703 Master Select. Jamaican style: Hampden Estate Pure Single Jamaican Rum Overproof. Aged Agricole: Saint James l'Essentiel. Molasses based white rum: Wray & Nephew Overproof. Agricole white rhum: Montebello Blanc 50%.

Mr. Elliot, Black Tot 50 th anniversary Rum is available in North America, Try Bitters and Bottles. Actually I think they have 3 different Black Tot rums available.. They are in California but I’m not sure on their shipping policy. I’ve seen it on the East Coast as well, can’t remember exactly which store, try wine searchers.... sometimes they’ll help you find those hidden gems. Best of luck! AJ

Is the Hampden Estate 7 different from the Estate 8? It was a very good Hampden year and we saw a lot of great rums. Therefore, I can't choose the Hampden 8 as my top rum. Great House would be my top rum in the low ester area. I'm also going to do a crosstasting with Mden 1997 and TRC 1990. One of them would be my personal top rum I think.

The Hampden Estate 8 is a new formula and it contains just the OWH marque. I never tasted it, but judging by the marque it will be less funky that the previous blend.

The 7y is a OWH, LROK and DOK blend. But I still missed the fruity component. It's not as present as I expected. I should do a crosstasting with the Great House (OWH and <>H blend, 8:2). Pure OWH would be less fruity I think.

Great House was less intense, more balance of funk, fruit and spice than the 7y.

My 2020 high light’s... not easy, but could be. - velier Tiger shark (didn’t open my black tot 50 yet, so lets see) - Hampden estate 8 - CDI Jamaica 5 (fine blend at great value) just at the end of the year I had one of the all time greatest rum expiriences, but it’s not exactly a 2020 release or new in any way, but I will add it to the list anyway. - Damoiseau 1980 Full Proof. Holy hell, what a rum.

Tiger Shark is one of my top three navy rums. It's an exceptionally good blend. Black tot 50 and Pussers 50 are the other two. Never had the 1980 Damoiseau, but 1995 was also on the list of thefatrumpirate. It was exceptionally good. I must seriously try the 8y Hampden. It appears in every post. 😄

@vomi1011 @martin Jeppesen, I like your taste in rums. Tiger Shark is one of my all time favorit. However in few days I will get a Ping 9 sample (35y 1977 Long Pond). I can already say this will be my best in 2021 and perhaps an all time favorit together with Kill Devil Hampden 35y.

Martin, I really envy you that you have had the opportunity to taste the Damoiseau 1980 Full Proof cause I just love the Damoiseau 1986 15yo which I still have 1 1/2 bottle of. As you and I seems to have quite alike taste it seems like I have to get a Tiger Shark too.

@VikingXO 1977 Long Pond will be woody and concentrated I think. Great stuff, looking forward to your review. https://leblogaroger.eu/index.php/2018/03/09/long-pond-1977/ My oldest Long Ponds were 24y old from Plantation. They were great, but I'm still a big fan of Velier LP TECA. I'm going to do a cross tasting with ElD Albion, Skeldon, Enmore 1996 and the Demerara 1996 SVW. Will be also a new experience for me. @Stefan Would love to do a cross tasting with Damoiseau 1980, 1986 and 1989. 1980 should be exceptionally good. This juice is now weighed in gold and is just as difficult to get as the Velier bottlings

vomi1011 I’m also considering getting the damoiseau 95 after tasting the 80, but I still have an unopend 89 that should be very good as well. Have any of you compared the 95 vs the 89, and in that cause, which did you prefer? VikingXO I was looking at the ping 9 sample sale, but didn’t get it. A rum of legend. looking forward to your review. Stefan I think there’s a fair chance you will love the Tiger shark:-) not a bad rum.

Vomi1011 I have just added my review of the Ping 9 1977. It is truly what I expected. Explosion of flavors. No doubt in my top 3 of my all time favorit. Does it beat the Kill Devil 35y Hampden. I would say no, but they are close. Hampden just got that funky you can’t describe that is so fantastic. But it was truly a rare rum experience. How sad it was only 3 cl.

Sounds great, a fruity and spicy juice. I would not choose a winner between these two. They represent their own distillery and the 1977 LP is for sure not a high ester rum. Apricot aroma is sometimes in LP rums. Also the Plantation Extreme 24y has these apricot flavours (moldy wood). I think I can imagine how this one could taste like. So, your next one is the 35y Monymusk? 😄 https://www.whiskytempel.de/shop/monymusk-1984-35y-tropical-velier-mmw-rum-69-0-7l.html

@Martin Unfortunately no, I could only find the 89 for over € 300. That was too much for me and I bought three 95s. https://singlecaskrum.com/2017/11/13/three-damoiseaus/ They could be on the same level.

@vomi1011 Thanks for the link, interesting read. The article linked me to a review of the 1980 from the Lone caner. Didn’t read this before, but seems he had a pretty good time with that rum as well. As he also mention in his review, it’s insane how integrated the high alcohol content is. It’s a pure, compact flavour bomb. If you ever see a sample of this, grab it!

@vomi1011. Just added my Monymusk 35 review. I will rate the 3 top Jamaican this way: Hampden 35 (A liquid rum cake explosion) Ping 9 Longpond 35y (full of flavors) Monymusk 35 (A Grape-Woody-Oil bomb) 😅

Wow, nice juice. Would love to try it also :) Sweet grapefruit and oily, this must be exceptional. Monymusk is still underrated. I never had such an old MMW, but I love the EMB. I saw your review of Nobilis 32y Enmore, some people mentioned acid notes and too much spice. Did you notice anything like that?

If you like old navy try Le Gust's 2002. A great rum, I enjoyed it very much. https://www.caveconseil.fr/produit/cuffy-optimum-proof-demerara-2002-le-gust/
