Coconut water, ginger beer and clementine juice are classics for mixing. What was wrong with your old account? Because you can edit or remove your reviews.

Coconut ice cubes were also a suggestion from an older thread. I never heard of root beer with rum, but try it out. If you like it you can't do wrong.

I always go with Pepsi with real sugar. To save calories, I go with premium coconut water

Ginger beer for me. My favorite rum drink is Dark โ€˜Nโ€™ Stormy which requires Ginger beer. I use the alcoholic version. But itโ€™s all about what drink you like, so if you like a Cuba Libre use Coke.

Myers and pineapple Juice is an old classic that pairs perfectly. I have been using the coconut water ice cubes and love it with middle tier rums in the summer. Most of my rum drinking is straight.

Jimmy: Another dark rum that goes very well with pineapple juice is Blackwell's Reserve. The legendary Chris Blackwell (of Island Records) got Joy Spence of Appleton to create four possible dark rums for marketing. He had a sampling from a few other staff members. They all chose the one that is now available, except for him, who was the lone dissident in taste. It is one of the best rums one can buy, especially when price is considered. In a side by side test at a bar a few years ago, it easily beat out my sample of Appleton 21 at one sixth of the price on a full bottle. No easy feat! Buy a bottle if you can find it! By the way, fantastic work on your Rebirth album!!!! Keep more of them coming!!!!

read month ago, here about the mixing with root beer and I'm getting curios. Found some root beer at the bottle shop and hade start to mix. So, I started with Goslings that I usually use for the Dark'n'Stomy and it tastes awful. Then I tried some Mezan Jamaica rum and it tastes quite nice but not very much rummy. Today after work for the beginning weekend I mix it with a Jamaica high ester rum and it works great. The rum flavours getting through the strong root beer taste. A bit like D'n'S with berry syrup. In the end I think it's possible to mix rum with anything you like even with chocolate milk

@PaulB - I just noticed you said you like the Blackwell Reserve even better than the Appleton21? I'll second that! Blackwell is releasing their 007 rum this month for $10 more than their reserve. Should be interesting... https://www.blackwellrum.com/007

Falcon: Thanks for the tip on the upcoming 007 release. Here is an interesting inside story on the Blackwell's Reserve. Chris asked Joy Spence to make up several samples so that his panel of about four could choose which one to market. He chose one. The panel all chose the same one, but not the same one that Chris preferred. He wisely listened to the results of his panel to produce Blackwell's Reserve. His taste in rum obviously runs counter to that of the general public. I wish that I had been on that panel.

Getting back to the mixer topic, I used grapefruit and pineapple juice yesterday for Appleton 12yo but it was too sweet so i added juice from half lime and it worked great. I also prepared another cool thing: fallernum. Take rum (the stronger the better), and pour it to a jar with your favorite spices. I used almonds, cloves, lime zests and ginger. Leave it to macerate for 24hours and pour through a cloth to obtain clear liquid. It is extremely aromatic and can be drank neat or with ice cubes but if you add small part of fallernum to the previous mixture you're in carribean heaven.

@ kudzey your fallernum sounds great, like a spiced rum with your favourite ingredients. I use some spiced rum in the wintertime to mix it with hot apple juice usually Kraken and for x-mas Bristol Black. @ Rum Funk no cold season in Singapore to drink hot drinks, I think. Great, you live close to a fruit store. If you can get white Rhum Agricole you can put some sliced fruits (any you like) into an empty bottle and fill it up with the Agricole. That is called "Rum Arrangรฉe" in La Reunion and Mauritius. Leaf the fruits inside for the whole time it's very nice on ice for hot days. I love the Arrangรฉe here in the summer.
