Sugar, sugar everywhere.

Basically anything produced and bottled on Barbados and Jamaica should have no added sugar (be wary of rum sourced from Jamaica and bottled elsewhere, like that horrible Canadian Screech). Of those, I particularly recommend anything from Four Square distillery on Barbados, and from Hampden Estate on Jamaica. Moreover, whatever you buy from Luca Gargano from Velier will be unadulterated. There are also independent bottlers like Campaignes des Indes who although do have some sweetened rums, they always publish that information up front. Basically stay away from the spanish speaking countries, especially from Dominican rums, Santa Theresa is sweetened, if I remember correctly. Matusalem 15 cheats by adding prune extract. Also note that some produces circumvent the bad rep of added sugar by for example announcing the rum is aged in sherry cask, then order sweet sherry cask with sherry still left on the bottom of the barrel, and pour the rum straight in - what you get is a sherry flavoured rum.

Also consider the Real McCoy 5 & 12 yr rums. They are awesome!

Rum sixty six, also barbadian, from the maker of doorly’s. Amasing sugar free rum. Admiral rodny is another exceptional sugar free rum. Cheers:-)

Hi Lukas, MGXO is a nice start into the amazing world of rum. I think you like other rum from Barbados too, they all have no sugar added (forbidden by law when bottled in Barbados). Maybe you like to try rhum Agricole made from fresh sugarcane juice not from molasses, like J.M. or Clement. If money doesn’t matters look out for Rhum Bielle or Rhum Bologne. I also recommend independent bottlers (lucky to live in Europa), like Compagnie des Indes, Kill Devil, Berrys', Bristol, Rum Nation, Ultimatum Rum a.m.m. They have some nice small Batches or single cask, no sugar no Colour. Find your own rum style you like and explore !!!

Hello Lukas. MGXO is indeed dry but an excellent rum. Other rums you might want to consider include: - Santa Teresa 1796 - Brugal 1888 - Flor de Cana 18 - Barbancourt 5 stars 8 years Those are fairly dry or contain a minimal amount of added sugar. Good luck exploring the world of rums
