43% sharper than Reserva Exclusiva
Simply amazing
One of my “must have”

Solid. The Reserve Exclusiva was a step up, but this one doesn't do much more for me than that one.

Avast, mates! Burn and sink me, but I be no stranger to Diplomatico rums! As this rum goes, she has a decent smell about her with her caramel comin’ on board first, followed by oak, and THEN a hint of vanilla, a wee bit of fruit (fetch me up for daft, but I want to say raisins?) and barely a whiff of somethin’ roasty-toasty. As one might expect from Diplomatico rums, she be off to a fine start! On the tongue, she be smooth and sweet, but along side the sweet be a whisper of bitterness from the sherry influence. Never ya mind, tho, because the sherry be gone like the darkness at dawn, and the sweet be exposin’ herself as more of a cola flavor once she has the deck to herself, suitable for any biscuit-eatin’, candyfloss-lovin’ land-lubber lookin’ to cross the line into the world of pirate rum. She not be candyfloss sweet, but sweet enough for first steps into REAL rum, mates! There be zero burn on the tongue OR goin’ down the hatch, which be beggin’ the question: might this be a good sippin’ rum? Aye! This not be the kind of rum ya share with yer krewe. Maybe the ladies... MAYBE... but NOT the krewe. Arrgh!

Diplomático Selección de Familia is notably spicy with gentle fruit notes.

Nouse: Cacao, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, PX
Mouth: Smooth, dark chocolate, white pepper and dry fruits
Medium persistence on the palate, dry, slightly astringent and with a moderate aftertaste.

Drink this, you will like it

I really enjoyed this one straight. Oaky nose. Sweet, with some vanilla. Just a little afterburn. Surprisingly it did not mix well, so I will stick to straight up.

A drier, less sweet version of its better-known, puddingy kid brother.
Not sure it really works, if I'm honest.
A bit like having low-sugar sweeties.

A great rum for sipping, goes down smooth and also no burn. However I recommend to stop at 2-3 glasses because of the strong taste. The Reserva Exclusiva you can sip all night long though :D.

Caramel, dried fruit (plum) and vanilla in aroma; sweet caramel start, raisins and dried fruit (plum, cherry, apricot), round body; decent warming tail with touch of raisins and plums.

On the nose, caramel, slight chocolate. While tasting, it is sweet, tiny bit earthy. Finish is smooth, not burning. I will buy my standard diplomatico again, to compare, but I understand why this rum is more expensive. Recommend!
