Just plainly gosh awful. A server talked me into this and It was an effort to drink even half of it. ( I did because I was a guest at dinner). After dinner I went home and poured myself some Pyrat. ( I was out of my 21 year old El Dorado).
Rhum dégageant d'agréables arômes. Doux en dégustation
My liquor store clerk tried to talk me out of this one, saying it's for college kids. But I got it anyway, and think it's a really good spiced rum. It has a nice vanilla and marshmallow scent with a light peppery spice, and though it's quite strong at 46%abv, I actually like it straight with no ice, which is indicative of a quality rum. As with many spiced rums, there's not much real rum taste here; mainly the added flavoring like vanilla and sugar. But this is a lot better than most spiced rums in my opinion.
Save this for when he comes over. See if he still drinks up everything in your house after that.
I've only had Sailor Jerry at college parties where people feel compelled to take never-ending shots of it.
But not really anything special. Just based on the higher proof it is a no brainer to buy this one instead of CM, but if you can find them go with Brinley's, 7 tiki, the Lash, or Kraken.
I glad to find so many spiced rums other than the Captain on shelves here. Sailor Jerry has done a nice job of sailing in a bit of a different direction. The spice is much bolder. I notice the bottle on this site shows as 80 proof but we have a much higher octane on our shelves. Also not sure what they mean by "The Original", are there other versions? I haven't seen anything but 96 proof and that grade detracts a bit for me; perhaps saying more about me as a wimp. The strong alcohol burn is not what I seek in a rum but I like most else about it. The back story is great with one of the tattoo artist's hula girls on the label but its only a story; the rum is what counts most.
Very good rum....But strong....

The rum smells very sweet.
"It is initially very sweet on the tip of the tongue but it soon becomes very bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
