The price is fair, and i like the hint of vanilla on the palate. Not much complexity in this one but still ok.
I like this over proof rum over Captain Morgan, it has less of that Morgan bite at the end when in a rum and coke, seems a bit smoother.
It is very sweet, the hint of vanilla can't be missed and coke seems a little too sweet at first for this rum. What we have found is those Mexican market made cokes that are made with real sugar rather then fructose seems to tone the sweetest down and makes for a better drink. Makes a very good Cuba Libre, without the brown sugar that is used in some parts of the world, just Mexican coke, rum, splash of lime.
For the price range, the proof, it a good value rum.
Fantastic arrangement of spices, but is overshadowed by the barrage of alcohol, which prevents it from being a decently enjoyable rum. Another one of its flaws, is that the coke and rum combination really doesn't work for this brand, which, frankly, is inexcusable. Apparently, it can be improved by adding brown sugar and vanilla to the drink, but it feels a bit odd that I would buy an incomplete rum, when they could have stuck with a recipe that works. As it is, it would be better when in the middle of a party than a party-starter.
In the end, I get more joy smelling it than drinking it.
What you'll be getting is a smooth spiced rum that does what is says on the tin.
The only downfalls I had was that I am now stuck in an eternal internal debate between Sailor Jerry and Red Leg. You have no idea how many people I've held up in my locals spirits section. (In my defence, putting them next to each other is just asking for trouble)
Some were meh and some were really good. This one really stands out for me as the smoothest and overall nicest tasting. It is not until November that we will be back in the Caribbean to restock and try new ones. That said, Sailor Jerry may still be in the top of the pack for me.
Bon ehum mais la bouteille est magnifique, j'adore son style mais moins fan du rhum que de la bouteille...
Parfait rhum a cocktail Mais a ne pas déguster seul
My go too. I love the combination of sweet and spicy. I love it with coke and lime.

The rum smells very sweet.
"It is initially very sweet on the tip of the tongue but it soon becomes very bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I shy away from inferior spiced rums usually because they contain artificial ingredients and caramel color to make it look like a premium dark rum. Also, if a spiced rum contains too much of a certain ingredient, such as, vanilla, it overpowers the other subtle flavors that are also trying to compete with the vanilla. Then you have the sweetness issue! Too sweet, like cough syrups or cordials come to mind.
This is one of those rums that I would simply pass by, except if I needed a quick fix and was in a bind.
Sorry Jerry...
