I found myself being out of white rum and low on funds, so I went back to that clearance store to pick up a liter of this for only $7. The aroma is pure alcohol and nothing else. Letting it breathe in the snifter for about 15 minutes helps. The taste is like pure alcohol and nothing else. An ice cube tamed it down. Then I used the old faithful taming formula of 2 parts coconut water to 1 part of rum. That was a marriage made in heaven and a good tasting low calorie drink on the rocks. However, coconut water can tame all but the most vile of rums.
Being a fan of their gold mixer rum also led me to try this one. I now realize that heavy spices were added to this one to tame it down for their dark version. I keep several bottles of their dark rum on hand in the event that the clearance store finally runs out. Bargains like this don't come often.
