Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

Just your average dark rum, good with a mixer, but always available
After reading hordes of reviews and seeing the product in the store forever I decided to give it a try. 9.99 for the 375 bottle, had to go for it. The pour was unusual from the get go. An atypical color and scent right from the bottle. Small sip.... hmmm.. I let it sit 20 minutes and hit it again. Better, mellowed the alcohol taste and gave me a very sweet orange flavor with rum behind it. It was a bit like a rum and Sunkist soda, with a little extra soda. Not bad, but not the flavor profile I expected. I’ll be god damned if I’m gonna let my drink sit out for hours trying to find its sweet spot. I am going to re visit this bottle in a week or two and re-review my findings, but for now it’s a unique rum with a great marketing campaign with mediocre contents.
...read a lot of reviews about this one, so I had to buy it.
At first it smelled and tastes terrible...so I let it breathe for about 90 minutes...
Oh man, what a change...180° :)
Tasty and smells so yummy...you should like orange though.
7 to a 7.4...it sucks that you have to wait for so long to enjoy it...but it is worth it.
Tip: let it breathe for at least the 90 minutes and enjoy meanwhile another rum...
This rum will never have a problem being on the shelf. I got this because the guy at the store said I'm out of el dorado so try this one. That's the last time I will ever listen to an idiot salesman. He made his sale & I hated not only him but myself. You pirates out there should already know, Steer a Wide Berth!
Yes, indeed, orange is the dominant taste. But it is sweet and is good flushing it with coke.
Beautiful sipper. Slightly smokey with orange notes. Fruitier than my normal favorites but def a top hitter. Lovely lingering aftertaste! I'll try the Pyrat cask next time
Nie je to zlý rum, ale vôňa pomaranča je príliš silná a posúva ďalej od hranice vyváženosti. Chuť je pomerne sladká, na konci cítiť alkohol. Na začiatok dobrá voľba.
Saw this at the local Getränketmarkt - remember seeing it getting a lot of comments, thought it was supposed to be one of the better ones. Wrong. Epic Fail. This is rough & nasty one-dimensional rum with too much orange flavour (never something I enjoyed outside of actual oranges !) and precious little else. I'll use it for cocktails where it can be buried, but I won't bother sipping it again.
Aroma: lemon zest, caramel and oak notes, some nostalgic "Dzintars" fragrance produced in Soviet Union times :) ,taste: when poured in glass right after opening the taste is very sharp. After giving time to grasp some air, it becomes quite smooth and some sharpness remains at finish with. A lot of lemon flavor, which I usually do not like here is a with a bit different note and balances out well with sweetness and is really enjoyable.
"Had wine not been the drink of choice 2,000 or so years ago, Jesus would have probably turned every drop of water on earth into Pyrat Rum XO Reserve"

"it’s like an orange Chuck Norris came through the joint, belted out a roundhouse kick to the face..."

A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This one is really different from everything out there. Very smooth but feels like a blend of rum and orange liquor. None the less interesting when you feel for something more sweet. Not as woody and complex as I would like for 15 years old.
