The rum pours a nice dark colour in the glass, as expected of a demerara, however the legs were very weak.
The nose was more subdued and difficult to analyze than expected. Thoughts of nature were evoked; wood notes seemed present, heavy chocolate and licorice/anisette.
The mouth feel was thin.
Taste sensations were limited to the back of the mouth and were similar to the nose, with licorice being the most pronounced flavour, although it was still quite subdued.
The drink was extremely smooth with almost no alcohol burn.
The after taste was pleasant and lingered in the back of the mouth far longer than most.
This was not quite what I had expected from a Demerara. The flavour palette was not as large as expected and the flavours present were not as expressive as expected. The rum was exceedingly smooth and the long lingering after taste was quite pleasant.
Overall, a good sipping rum, however at this price point (I paid $140 CDN which is over $100 USD) there are better rum choices available.
