One of my favorite things about exploring all the different types and styles of rums is being surprised by so many aspects of it. The versatility. The flavors. The affordability of most rums. The vast differences there can be in the same styles/types of rums.
This rum was a joy to discover and taste. I'm not going to get into all the details of the nose, flavors, mouthfeel etc. on this one as I think the Plantation website nails it pretty good. Three star is just a fun, flavorful and enjoyable experience whether you are new to rums or have tried 'em all. I would be happy sipping this neat or having it in a daquiri or other tiki cocktails.
I recently shared some of this rum with a few friends (which all of them love good bourbons and scotches) who had never gotten into rums much outside of an occasional mojito or cuba libre. Each one of them were blown away at the flavors and nuances of this simple, low-priced bottle of rum and wanted seconds.
Throw away your preconceptions of white rums and give this a try!
Well priced, good funk, great aroma, always in the cabinet.
mixes well with everything. Great flavor for a white rum
Ideální je do míchaných drinků, kde funguje skvěle. V rámci bílých rumů do míchaček, jeden z nejlepších.
Plays like a sweeter, gentler Smith and Cross, and it's dirt cheap, to boot. If you want some of the complexity and adventure of S&C but aren't in the mood for something so incredibly assertive, this is a great pick. This makes a better straight sipper than S&C as a result. Goes great with just a splash of fresh squeezed orange juice for some extra lightness and length.
It’s mainly a nose of strong alcohol.
"Initially it sips quite well and is reasonably smooth but it is has a very strong taste when swallowed."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Now this is a quality light rum. Its main virtue is its versatility. Goes well with anything that goes with rum, makes especially great daiquiris and unlike most light rums, it can also be sipped without being offensive or hard to drink. Like most of the Plantation line, it's well balanced. However, do consider its jack of all trades, master of none nature when buying, because aged rums are better for sipping (and Plantation's own 5-year isn't that much more expensive than the 3 Star), and most light rums are almost as good for mixing and cost less.
