I had the opportunity to taste this rum at the Spa rum fair in Belgium but it is more pleasant to come back to this rum in a quiet tasting. It is with the version reserved for the 2017 Salon du Rhum de Spa and the last Single Cask for the French Confrerie du Rhum the last time that we will see this packaging from New Grove. Indeed, a new logo and new color will make their appearances.
The color is deep amber with hues of gray. The nose is very pastry on bitter almond, chocolate, candied fruits. But also the exotic fruits that are more discreet with vanilla. On the palate, the alcohol is powerful but well integrated. It is very robust, but well balanced. The candied fruits are gone and leave some bitterness, the wood is powerful, the finish is spicy on citrus fruits. Very different from the usual Single Cask line but excellent.
