Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

This rum is very good. Not too sweet and there's no need for any rocks in it.
Realy good taste. You should try it. Don't suit everyone but I like it.
I was expecting more, honestly. Still a little harsh to drink, and just not that complex.
Lot of different flavors. Needs onr ice cube to smooth it little.
Being a rather proud "straight" person the name is a bit of an obstacle to overcome. The rum as a whole is pretty tasty, can be enjoyed either on the rocks or neat. Pretty decent libation overall. There is a decent level of wood, a touch of whiskey and not an ounce of sweetness. From start to finish this rum is very good and something to have on your shelf.
This is quite a dry, strong rum. A nice amount of burn, and there's quite some oak and spices in the flavours. Also some distant sweetness... Perfect for those moments when you "need a drink".
Well its a special one. Because it stood in a cognac barrel for several months it has that special cognac taste. In the nose it is spicey and dry. On the tongue some dark chocolat. You have to drink it with a good cigar :)
Huge Woody profile for this copper dark rum, lots of bitter chocolate, some vainilla, bit strong alcohol in the nose and some coffee as well, bit dry fruits on the taste.
The same you smell, same you taste!
Good body very dense, medium finish/end
I think it is a traditional XO rum, not sweet and probably very good for old fashion.
'ripe banana and toast, followed by vanilla, pastry and...'
"Mount Gay Extra Old rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This was enjoyable but I preferred the mount gay eclipse more even though it's not as "premium" asXO
