Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Nosing reveals fruity notes with vanilla, caramel and tobacco. Palate starts with a spicy attack which immediately gives way to note of oak, vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate without sweetness. Long and smooth finish with some little smokiness. Puristic but nice rum.
Very well designed aged bajan rum - If you're a fan of Mount Gay Eclipse and enjoy aged rum, you'll enjoy their blended barrel-aged expression. I'm not a huge fan of aged rum anymore, but this is a crowd-pleaser, to be sure. The price point (~$60 USD) is a bit steep for the quality, but it competes with similar whiskey and cognac products at this level.
by far the worst rum i have tasted not worth the money i would be annoyed paying £10 for this avoid at all cost
This is a nice balanced smooth and sweet rum. For all the people, regardless of your sexual preference.
Blend of pot still and column still from rum aged between 8 years to 15 years.
Might sound crazy but banana peanut butter toast with strawberry jam it is! Moist wet wood and slight earthy towards the end.
Fruity on palate: ripe plums and banana compote.
Light touch of smokiness and burned wood.
Bitterness which balance up with the sweet fruity aroma.
Dry charred wood with tannic. Ripe guava and sour grapes. Opposite of what gotten on the nose.
It lingers well after sipping and makes you wanna continue with hesitating.
If you drank this rum next to any other you wouldn’t notice any difference.
Interesting nose of oak with a faint hint of toasted pineapple and candied orange.
Quite dry with some fruity sweetness that seems to derive from.distillation and not from added sugar, very correct — for better or worse. Not a very long aftertaste. It is a bit like drinking a medium range, mainstream XO cognac: pleasant, good craftsmanship but nothing I will remember. But absolutely a worthy candidate if you want to stock a good XO rum at home. I much prefer this style to those with added sugar.
Had this in a bar one night before I got into drinking sprits neat. Served on the rocks with a twist of lime and a sugar rimmed glass, prefer it neat but was a nice change.
'ripe banana and toast, followed by vanilla, pastry and...'
"Mount Gay Extra Old rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."

Great flavour balance, yet to rate it higher I would add some orginality to it, something special, like those coconut flavour in Plantation XO. This is more dry rum and I have so much respect to it and in fact becouse of this rum I had to lower my rating of Brugal 1888, simply becouse MG is better, more complex.
Final verdict:
For sure this could hit my cabinet once more in the future
