Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Second tasting, slightly disappointing. Initial taste is very smooth but on the weak side. If you swallow you get a kick with a slight alcohol burn. Aftertaste is the best thing about this one for me, very smooth and very long lasting.
I know hardly anything about rum I'm just giving it a rating so it shows up in my 'cabinet'. That said, it was very easy to drink. Seemed somehow less flavourful than the Diplomatico RE I had, but also smoother. After drinking this the Diplomatico seemed like it had much more of a burn.
velmi, velmi povedenΓ½ rum... jeden z mΓ½ch favoritΕ―
I drank this in Jamaica and have been dreaming about it since!
Treat yourself with a more complex and robust mount gay for those special occasions
I spent a few months working down in Barbados in 2019 and really liked the previous XO. However, I think Richard Seale once again outdid himself.
The triple cask really does provide a symphony of flavor, but not at all too sweet. If they announce they are discontinuing it, I would rent a storage unit and buy as much as I could. :-)
Solid if a bit less interesting than others at this price point. I had one of the older version as it seems to have rebranded in 2020/21. N: cinnamon clove caramel, nice, sweeter, more fruit after sitting. T/F: cinnamon and spice, lighter, longer and very sippable, sweet w/o added sugar. But unlike most on this site, I think I prefer the cheaper and much more aggressive / interesting black barrel.
it s a honest non sweetened rum, good neat or in a rum old fashioned !
let sit 10 minutes in the glass to lower the burn at nose, dry, complex nose (a lot of fruits, oak, brown sugar),
in the mouth is dry, warm but 43% ABV is ok, not too much,
it s a rum for whisky drinkers (me too), better than many 10-12 years old single malts i ve tried !

It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."

Not much to say, than it is a worthy rum with good analogies, to buy. The least you can rate it is 7 but really worth your time and money.
