Mount Gay Eclipse rum is produced from molasses that is double distilled and aged up to 2 years in white Kentucky oak ex bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay is the oldest existing rum brand in the world, with it's oldest surviving deed being from 1703. The company developed the use of traditional double copper pot stills, a process that has been in continuous use by Mount Gay ever since its founding. The company's namesake Sir John Gay Alleyne was a good friend of John Sober who purchased the then Mount Gilboa distilleries in 1747.

It's OK and that's about it. Certainly passable as a sipper. As a mixer it's OK also. Gave it a 6 because you can't give a 6.5 and it's not deserving of a seven. As others have said it's just a good basic rum. Certainly an excellent choice as an intro for new rum drinkers instead of Bacardi or Captain Morgan
It is not a rum to drink straight up but suitable for mix (Cuba libre for me) and its nice spices notes with its fair price make it a nice improvement to the usual supermarket rum we often use for cocktails
Perfect rum for the Cuba Libre...slight buzz, but enjoyable...Basically a mixer...
Trying to find a better go to rum than Bacardi. This is now my go to rum for the price.
À venir prochainement..............................
It's a good rum but I would't call it a 7. It's a step up from the commercial grade mixers. I can say at least MG is making an effort. It's nice to taste fruit as opposed to the gasoline finish of the other Gold rums in this price range.
A nice tipple that lacks 'something'. I can't quite put my finger on it but it lacks a bit of depth. Nice all rounder but a little bland.
Smooth and very soft, honey, peaches, apricot and mango. Fruity and little bit alcoholic, rum of good quality for golden rum.

Quite sickly sweet smell.
"When sipped the rum does not exhibit much of these sickly sweet flavours. It’s just very heavy on the alcohol. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I find this to be an all around solid rum. Golden in color, it's citrusy/orange notes are the heavy hitters. Some heat in the throat but smoothes out and leaves a nice aftertaste. I mix, mainly for cuba libres, but it passes as a sipper.
