Mount Gay Eclipse rum is produced from molasses that is double distilled and aged up to 2 years in white Kentucky oak ex bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay is the oldest existing rum brand in the world, with it's oldest surviving deed being from 1703. The company developed the use of traditional double copper pot stills, a process that has been in continuous use by Mount Gay ever since its founding. The company's namesake Sir John Gay Alleyne was a good friend of John Sober who purchased the then Mount Gilboa distilleries in 1747.

Nose - Brown sugar, caramel, and ethanol.
Palate - Caramel, custard, and ethanol.
Finish - Molasses and...ethanol.
I think this one crosses the line from being brash to being abrasive. In terms of flavor and aroma, there's nothing bad aside from the strong alcohol presence, but there isn't anything particularly good. And that's pretty much the same for the rum as a whole: it's definitely not bad, but it isn't really good either. You certainly do worse, but you could do a lot better too.
Rhum bon mais pour commencer une dΓ©gustation ou pour faire de TRΓS bon cocktails.
If I am making rum punch it has this in it, not smooth enough for sipping but with fruit juices it's perfect
Een erg lekker rummetje om te mixen niet te scherp en niet te zoet. Een aanrader
I was introduced to MGE at a sailing regatta they sponsored. It was a solid choice then and now 20 years later. Right on the line between cocktails and sipping. Try it on a rock with a splash of H2O and a small squeeze of lime.
Same price as Morgans at my supermarket. Pleasantly surprised how good it is. Not much to say other than an absolute classic strong rum flavour. Pretty hot stuff on the throat. Ideal for a rum and coke that tastes of rum.
Floral on the nose, but is a bit bitter at the end.

Eclipse is my favourite "everyday tum". Not too pricey, very good quality, value for money. Pretty good in a scratch Mai Tai.

Quite sickly sweet smell.
"When sipped the rum does not exhibit much of these sickly sweet flavours. Itβs just very heavy on the alcohol. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It was not overly flavourful. Strong aftertaste - not pleasant. Does not mix well with cola. More of a sipping rum in small doses.
