New Grove Single Barrel Rum 2007 - 60 °, barrel 42-15, 385 bottles, aged in Limousin oak, selected for the 60th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky. As far as we were concerned, it was the bottle 276.
Nice amber color with gold reflection.
The nose is much more complex to define since the 60 degrees feel good if I may say. It will require aeration. Roasted notes appear as time passes and becomes more and more imposing. Also nuts, such as hazelnut, walnut and almond.
The fruits (exotic always) and spices (cinnamon) but also this note of caramel detected on the whole series of single casks arrive slowly but surely without however taking the step in relation to each other.
In the mouth, it is an incredible heat and - not surprisingly - a predictable power of alcohol lining the palate.
In retro-olfaction, as soon as one succeeds in passing the alcohol, caramelized fruity notes come to us and, more surprising, aromas of tobacco are imposed.
The finish is moderately long and always relatively strong in alcohol.
The roasted notes initially perceived are still there. And this molasses that never ceases to follow us in a relatively discrete way. Spices such as nutmeg and pepper and woody notes accompany us to the end.
