I like this rum for only $18.99 (Total Wines & More, 2017 price).

Smells and tastes of charred oak, spice, caramel, and maybe a hint of cognac. Not sweet.

Decent, though I prefer slightly sweeter rums.

This is another great plantation rum! And it costs less then a Captain Morgan! But this one you can enjoy as a sipper. A CM you can't drink without coke, at least the cheaper ones. And if you want to mix it you will never go back to rums like CM. The smell is smooth full of arrak, vanilla and banana. It have a quite oaky sweet taste of vanilla, arrak, rumraisins and banana. I have a feeling that a bottle of plantation original dark will always be in my cabinet. A cold winterday blend this with hot chocolate and some whipped cream on top and you will be amazed! Go and buy now, a must have!

Nice bronze color. On the nose are notes of exotic fruits with banana and spices with a light smoky side. In the mouth, it is very sweet, not very long. An excellent rum for cocktails.

This should be the standard for mix rums. It's good, but i wouldn't sip it.

A friend got this one for his birthday, in Honor of me and my best friend, who, like me, only drinks Rum or Ciders when drinking anything at all outside. Clean, pleasant to the palette and very approachable. Great for mixing and superior to many others beyond it's price point.

Certainly a mixer, but too harsh to sip. Very fruity when mixed, and very tasty, but the hangover (typical of my experience with Plantation's offerings) was painful. Must be sugared up some. At this price point I prefer Goslings 151. More bang for the buck and no hangover. Review is for the new woke Plantery edition. While I won't be pouring this out, I certainly won't be purchasing it again.

For its price below $20, I was pleasantly surprised. Having tasted many aged rums, this one gives you a light balanced taste (just like a light beer!) for a weekday sipping rum; to be paired (if you are a fan) or not with a light cigar.

This is dark rum. If you are making a cocktail that calls for aged, don't use this.
If it calls for a dark rum, then yes. It's not dark you say? That's because they don't add coloring to it, but it is made with the dark rum method.
If you have a cocktail that calls for dark rum or dark (bleneded) Jamaican rum, this is a great ingredient. Some Jamaican rum is in it, but not enough to drown it in funk that makes your drink disgusting. Slightly sweet but not strongly. Caramel forward and smooth with a good balance of flavors and nothing strange or non-rum tasting from aging it France.

My go to dark rum for tiki drinks and everything else.

To be honest, it has been a while since I tasted this and my palette has evolved since then, so I will have to revisit it at some time.
That being said, I remember it as an awful sipper and a decent mixer (with cola).
